Happily it is safe. The only worry is insecticides, like any other vegetable, stick with organic if possible, thoroughly clean all fresh produce before feeding.
My Rickeybird eats all kinds of peppers.
In fact, that's the only way to get him back in the cage... toss one in and he scrambles in to get it.
