At the risk of admitting I'm a quaker snob, I can't resist bragging about my little geniuses. (Yes Poppy, I'm also partial to Toos)

I talk with my quakers every day and they are seldom without words, they talk to me, each other, the dogs, their perches, toys, food. Needless to say, they have raised their own bar.

Since Baby Wilson joined our flock there is a new level of competition between quakers. When the quakers talk the rest of us just try to keep up.

A conversation between Harry, Sammy, and Wilson. Sammy calls every treat, "cookie". He likes the word. I was handing out walnut pieces.

Sammy: Cookie!

Harry: Thank you! Wolf whistles!

Wilson: You're welcome!

Sammy: You are a good, good, sweetheart! Yum yum yummm!

Wilson: You're welcome! You're welcome! You're welcome! (He can't say thank you yet.)

Another overheard observation.

Sammy: You are a monkey! (He's heard me say, you are a little monkey. Sammy drops words he can't say)

No replies

Sammy: You are a monkey!

Wilson: Be a good boy! (Harry taught him that one)

Sammy: You are a monkey!

Sammy: Who said that?

My favorite conversations take place in the evening when I say goodnight to the flock and cover their cages.

Sammy: Nite Nite! Peek-A-Boo

Poppy: Bidey Bye Pidey Pie! (As I'm moving her to her room)

Harry: C'mere! C'mere! C'mere!

Sammy: Kissy noises, Gimme' gimme' gimme a kiss! Good night, Sweetheart!

Harry: Tickle, tickle, tickle Harry! Peek-A-Boo!

Sammy's newest: Good night, precious!

All of us sing, "You are my sunshine," our own versions, except for the dogs, they sometimes cover their ears. Can't blame them.

I'm laughing so hard I woke the Rbird up!

I love it.

I love you Quaker snobs, Amazon snobs, all y'all snobs...
I'm not a Patagonian snob; I'm an apologist.

I wish I could see their cute little Quaker faces as that all happened.
Preciosos!

Allee, your flock so cracks me up! The best part is hearing them say all this with a hint of your sweet southern accent! They are a polite bunch (excepting Harry's sometimes colourful interjections!). I love calling you in the evenings and getting to hear them.
I am in love with them.

That is amazing, you should try to get a video! I know it never works out perfect when the cameras out but I would love to be there to hear it.

Allee, your parrots are quite the conversationalists! :D When Ralph and Scooter converse, it usually goes something like this:

Ralph: Beep!
Scooter: Boop!

Their most memorable dialogue in English ran this way:

Ralph: Good parrot!
Scooter: Do you want some spaghetti?

Maybe they carry on more intelligent conversations when I'm not around. :)

Green Quaker Parrot (Gordon)
:green:Gordon concentrates his intelligent comments on manipulation. When I'm out of town and the birdy sitter comes over to "tuck him in", he starts yelling "gotta take a bath"!

And she lets him stay "up" for a few more minutes while he splashes around.

That's funny :). Those Quakers amaze me with their talking ability, how they talk to each other.

So jealous I am! Gus says squawk, squawk squawk, uh-huh, SQUAWK SQUAWK SQUAWK SQUAWK SQUAWK, but today I almost heard "hi". Your birds are GREAT talkers!

Allee, love the conversation. Quakers have impeccable timing when talking. I have arguments with mine all the time. They bounce their little heads up and down like they are trying to make a point. So funny

I love the quaker head bounce, so convincing. Sammy had a time out for biting yesterday, when his five minutes was up he flew to my shoulder, nipped me and said, "There you go!" It's hard to win an argument with a quaker parrot.

So cute! So far my little Nacho birdie isn't much for talking but he seems to get in some practice in the late mornings after breakfast. He'll be on top of his cage saying "good boy" and "I'm a cutie <head bob>" but he's not very clear yet. He did say "peekaboo" pretty well but only one time! He's a bit less than 6 months old and I'm looking forward to him getting clearer eventually and picking up more words and phrases in the years to come. And we're working on the biting thing too. Sounds like we probably always will, lol.

Nacho and Wilson are just about the same age. Nacho's talking skills are great already, the only reason Wilson is getting a bit of a head start is because Harry and Sammy never stop talking. I think it's easier for Wilson to learn from other quakers than from me.

Oh Gail! No, please, the quakers are a force of nature unto themselves!

When birds talk to US, I love it.
When they talk to each other, well...

But keep in mind, my whole bird-zeitgeist is based on the RICKEYBIRD!

From reading your posts about Harry and this thread too, it seems Quakers must be among the most talented talking parrot species. It absolutely blows me away what speech and comprehension they're capable of. That's up there with Greys!

Julie, in my opinion their language skills are right up there with the gorgeous greys! I wish a research scientist would study quaker linguistics, maybe at MIT with Alex's legacy study group. Haha, they probably haven't been chosen for long term research because they are considered a nuisance species by many, or it could be because they bite and have little respect for authority. :)
