Hi everyone,
One of my Quakers just past. Since she (the one that past) been with her mate since birth, what kind of impact will this have on him; who doesn't want to sleep in his cage now that she's gone. So, I was looking for some advice...Thanks.

Hi, sorry to learn of your quaker's passing. The mate knows something is not right, can you show the body to him, so he knows she is gone? He may have bad associations now with the cage. i would allow him to work things out in his little head, and not force anything. Again our condolences.

Hi! Confusion, fear, mourning, grief! Much the same as a young child would go through! Was he with her as she passed? Remember, his feeling of emptiness must be overwhelming!

Hey thanks for the advice. Salty and Flboy. Still new to this breed of bird; any bird actually. But I keep him on my shoulder more often so that seems to help a-bit. They seem to last only two years, even though diet is where it's suppose to be. Just prior to sally heading out...that was her name, she was at the vet with a clean bill of health.

If your quakers last 2 years, something is most definitely wrong. Quakers live for 15-20 years or so, easily. Please, read more on our board, about diet, cages, entertainment, environment and anything else to do with having a parrot in your life.

So sorry for the loss of your little Quaker. Think it might be worthwhile contacting a Avian Vet re having a necropsy performed and here is a little info on that for you

Curious as you say Sally had just been given a clean bill of health. If you have a choice contact a different AV to do this for you.

I have read it is beneficial for the living bird to see the deceased one.
