About 3 months ago, I noticed Kato had a bit of blood in his poop. I took him to the vet and he said he an imbalance of bacteria in his tummy and we got a prescription for Amoxicillin. He was on that for 10 days. When nothing changed, we took him back and they did a blood test and said he's got liver trouble. They put him on Colchicine and Ursodiol. Told me to expect runny poop. Usually in the morning, he gets a variety of mixed veggies and in the afternoon he gets Harrison's. Now, anything he eats in the morning, he throws it back up. The Harrison's stays down. You'd never know to look at him that there's a problem. He's playful, cuddly, everything he always has been, but I wonder what's going on. His color is good, his feet look good, his beak is fine. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Your birdie needs to see a certified avian vet, preferably, or one who holds avian certificates. ASAP. Birds will hide illness, until the problem is almost too advanced, because the weakest ones in a flock are the first to get picked off. So ebbie, tomorrow your going to make an appointment, the soonest pne, and get Kato some real help. Right?
Also, if you give the board more info on Kato, where you are, and any changes to cage, toys, chewing favorites, any recent changes, the folks here will offer what they can to help. It's hard to read an empty slate.

He has to finish his meds before they'll see him again.... There's nothing new in his life, although I did change his perches from wood to those woven ones. Kato is 17, he's a good eater and loves his Harrisons. He's under NO stress and spends a good part of his day on my shoulder. His coloring is perfect, he gets enough sleep...is there anything else I can tell you?

Thank you,

Debbie

is the vet specifically an avian vet? I've spoken to so many vets who will look at whatever walks through the door so they can get a quick buck. They're saying they won't see Kato again until the meds are done which is wrong wrong wrong, it's when they're more likely to show a problem such as vomiting. Think if you went to a doctor and they gave you something that made you sick would they turn you away if you came back? Find a different vet ASAP
