So I have made the decision to expand my flock beyond my sweet galah Lucille, and I am going to go with my favorite parrot (the type who first REALLY stole my heart!), a Quaker! I am looking into getting a green opaline from a breeder in NC right now!

YAY!

Hopefully he or she and Lucille will eventually get along (she is so obviously lonely sometimes!), but we will see how that works out.

I was thinking about getting my new Quaker a Pervue Flight Cage, but I am not certain if the bars are sturdy enough. I kept my last Quaker, Sammy, who now has a happy life with Allie in a smaller but thicker barred cage. I am all about the big cages, though (despite being free to roam almost ALL day, Lucille actually prefers hanging out in her cage since it's so HUGE compared to her size and is where all her toys are!) What do you guys think?

Man, I love Quakers, and I am so excited to have BOTH my favorite birds in my home!

Congratulations on becoming a Quaker parront again. :) The conventional wisdom about cages is that "bigger is better." I'm not familar enough with the Preview flight cages to know just how sturdy the bars might be, but I'm sure that one would be roomy enough to satisfy even a fussy QP.

Yeah, I decided that one won't be study enough for a Quaker--the doors don't even latch properly. I am going with the same cage I had for my sun conure which was 24x22x37.5 (actual cage dimensions, not including stand or play top). It's the largest I could find with bar spacing that's appropriate. I am all about the "bigger is better" process, too! My galah is in a macaw sized cage that takes up a quarter of my living room, lol. She gets good exercise even when in it, though, moving all around to play with various toys! I wish I had the cage I used for my conure here, but I took it to my family's lake cabin so that Lucille could go to the lake with me sometimes. It is too much of a hassle to move back--it got pretty dented up getting there and I think it's better to start fresh!

My cage won't arrive until between August 29th and September 11th, though, so he won't be able to come home with me until them. :(

I do wish his wings weren't clipped.

I was sent the most hilarious image of the little guy. Giraffe neck, anyone?
