No real interest in cage toys.

Well Thor has been with us a week and one day. He (or she) has shown no real interest in the toys in his cage. When we're home, we have him out as much as possible, either on his cage, or a small stand in the kitchen.

We did buy new toys for his cage, and I bought new perches today, but should we be concerned about his lack of interest?

I don't think there's reason for concern. Sometimes with quakers, making friends with anything new is a process, Thor's whole world is new. It could be that no one ever provided toys that Thor found interesting. All birds are individuals, some just aren't that fond of toys. I usually hang new quaker toys on the outside of their cages for a week or so until they no longer believe the new thing will eat them. One of my quakers loves any new toy and sets out to destroy it on sight, the other two are choosier, sometimes they surprise me and pick a favorite to play with. I keep providing a variety of new toys and rotating the ones they show no interest in.

Mine like little toys they can hold in a foot, or long sticks he can haul and try to build stuff. Likes to chew and destroy. Thor definitely need a little plastic or wood hammer!!! And a little time, unless you tell him it's a valuable irreplaceable then watch out ! Lol

Sometimes a parrot won't recognize what the toys are for. It can help to play with the toys yourself while Thor watches. Show him how to play with them and how much fun they are, and he may want to join in the fun-- and eventually, may play with the toys on his own.

No real interest in cage toys.
