Penny makes this soft noise when pressed against me. Put your lips together then flutter them and make a pop pop pop noise, see what happens! I tried with Neptune and he immediately ran over and made the noise right back pressing his face to mine. It seems to be a happy communication. I tried it when he was being wild too, and he immediately calms down seems very happy and comes over to make it back to me, it's a very soft noise, kind if like bubbles. So I want to see what happens when you make this noise to your quakers??? And what do you think it communicates??

Sunny a female B&G macaw;
Japie (m) & Appie (f), both are congo african grey;
All are rescues- had to leave their previous homes for 'reasons', are still in contact with them :)
I have no certain idea exactly, but Sunny makes this kind of tip-of-the-tongue-behind-the upperteeth-klicks sound that also makes her verry happy if I try it.

Maybe its like shushing babies -> a shusssssh sound is supposed to immitate the sound the babies hear in utero (blood in the veins is supposed to hissh)--- and for birds it is the muffled fast ticking sounds of the heart of the motherbird, heard through the eggshell?

Does it sound kind of like a dripping faucet? Peanut is not a quaker, but she does that sound often. When I do it back she seems very interested, but sometimes she starts to move her neck like shes ready to regurgitate so I stopped doing it. Thank you for the kind gesture peanut, but I'll pass.

Peanut is a beautiful parrot! I don't know if it's like a faucet dripping? Fir me it just pop pop pop pop really fast , no regurging at least yet...Penny now does it when I pass her cage, she says a lot of words but really seems to like mimicking noises like squeaky door, microwave, whistles, mechanical noise, rarely the old car alarm noise, dog barks cat meows, quacks, microwave is the big favorite if I'm near it she makes the noise, also cuz I always laugh at that, then Neptune laughs. You need to do a Peanut update, he us cute!!

My quacker Niimii makes this noise when she cuddles. It’s her purring sound. I repeat it to calm her down. It’s a very sweet noise. :)

Bumble is a parrotlets, but she makes a similar almost purring noise. She usually makes it when her cage is covered and I walk past; I think of it as her “reach out” noise (reaching out to make sure that’s you out there, mom) and I always respond with the human version. She also sometimes makes it when she’s sleepy/content but it’s completely different from beak grinding.

My quaker does it too! But i think he’s learned it from me as a kissing noise :)
But when i do it, he doesn’t run to me... he repeats it if i do the noise when i’m really close to his face ^^
