Hello, everyone! I have a quick question about my girl Bluebell’s cage layout. I’m at a loss with how I can nudge her to use most of her new cage. I know that using perches that go down to the lower parts would help, but what sort of toys could I use? Maybe a seagrass mat?

I’ll post a picture as soon as she’s up tomorrow.

Start by putting a few food items on the floor. You can make foraging items, too, by squashing a bit of food into a ball of paper (it's a good idea to let the bird see you do it so she knows there's food inside). Whiffle balls are good for floor play. Or, you could hang a knotted rope (I use sisal) from a perch so birdie can swing from it (the rope, not the perch).

I already use foraging balls occasionally for Leo, it didn’t occur to me to use them with Bluebell though (-1 parronting point haha). She already has a whiffle ball that she loves to play fetch with (although I do the fetching). The sisal rope sounds like an excellent idea for both of my fids! On the shopping list it goes!

Here’s her new cage, finally. Everyone wanted to socialize before I could have some time to post it without being interrupted by a tongue in my ear or a determined hairstylist. Please ignore how everything is clustered together, I did it late yesterday afternoon and wasn’t thinking clearly. I’ll fix it today.

If you put food and water bowls on the BOTTOM of the cage along with perches to get from the bottom all the way to the top it will make her utilize the entire cage.

See my cage here, it's similar to yours. I have all kinds of perches -- natural wood branches, cement pedicure ones, soft rope perches, swing, hanging basket, really there is no such thing as too many perches or toys.
