My Quaker squawks when He flies or steps up.

Quaker Luna is happy and quiet sitting in or in cage but doesn’t play with toys. He eats well and sleeps covered 8-8
He will step up in cage but I can’t bring him out and he will step up out of cage for a few seconds sometimes up to 5 mins but continuously squawks and then fly’s off. I give him lots of verbal praise and talk to him regularly but if I offer treat rewards he doesn’t take them or takes it and drops it straight away.
Any advice how I can get him to enjoy interaction with me?

That’s a nice toy in there, but is more appropriate for a macaw or large cockatoo. I’d recommend several smaller toys. Search for toys made for conures or small parrots. I bet he’d be more interested in toys more his size;) I’d also get a couple more perches in the cage too. It’s a great size cage, just could use a few improvements to make it really feel like home for the little guy:)

As for your interactions with him, how long have you had him? It can take months to build trust with a new bird. I’d suggest opening the cage door and seeing if he eventually comes out on his own. You can also use the tried and true method of trust building with birds of pulling up a chair next to the cage and reading out load to him in a soft, gentle voice. Doesn’t matter what you read, tone of voice matters. This gets them used to you as a non threat and eventually you’ll notice him get closer. You can eat treats yourself and offer them to him in the cage when he shows interest as a further sign you can be trusted. There is no rush, do this on his timetable not yours. He will eventually get more and more friendly and your interactions will get more and more personal.

Truly great recommendations above! I also love the cage!
The large lower and upper doors can really open it up for your Parrot to check-out the World just outside the cage.
It is so very important to remember that they have no natural reason to Trust Humans! Our working every day to build the trust is key to building a relationship with a Parrot!
Always remember to work at the speed of your Parrot.

Thank you
His cage is next to sofa so he has myself and my husband talking to him and sitting near him constantly which he is fine with. We can stand next to cage with top open and chat to him and he is fine. He will come out and fly to training perch on other side of room and sit there for hours and happy for my cockatiel to sit with him. If we approach him he either fly’s off squawking or he will step up but continuously squawking then fly off. If we offer him treats like a grape half or a pine nut etc he either doesn’t take it or takes it and drops it.
