New Quaker owner... need Input!!

We have a two month old Quaker who is very sweet and tame. We are not sure of the gender yet.
I have noticed when he sees me or when I hold him, he fluffs his feathers and bobs his head. He will kind of flap his wings, but the wings are not fully extended when he does this. I can not figure out what this means. He always wants to come to me and wants me to hold him. I just can’t figure out what this means... thank you!!!

Hello and welcome to you and your little cutie! The behavior you described is perfectly normal for quaker parrots, it’s why they’re called quakers, baby quakers do it to ask for food but this species continue to do it into adulthood at least to some degree. Some will discontinue the behavior at some point, others never do. Nothing to worry about. We’d love to see photos of your new family member.

Thank you! I will post pictures for sure! So I know many things are toxic to birds... but what is recommended for a disinfectant.. for the cage or for surfaces the bird uses the restroom
On? We have to kids and of course want to keep them

My favorite cleaner is hot water, vinegar and a sponge. I line my cages with newspaper so the mess can be sprayed with plain water from a mist bottle then the papers can be folded and tossed, this method keeps the feather dust from drifting so much. For deeper cleaning, you can add a small amount of bleach to the water and again, rinse well. You may find some helpful hints in our Cage section if you’d like to browse.

Just use soap and water most of the time. Once in a while, I'll roll the cage outside and hit it with a steam cleaner (bird elsewhere of course).

I wrote a long post only to deleat by accident

Anyway I want to stress how important to allow your bird to fledge and fly for a few months, and then only if you must clip.
Fly has a huge impact on their mental health for life!!!! It's a huge developmental milestone. Hopefully your bird wasn't clipped, but if it was please let grow out right now and learn to fly while young. I'm dealing with a rescue Quaker who never learned to fly, abd it's beyond sad..... Parrots have a very difficult time learning to fly if they ever are able to as adults..
This is a great time to do harness trading too! So get one asap if this is something you want.
Can't wait to see pictures!!!!!
