Pikachu made it home safely! What a lovely, sweet, confident bird. I'm in love with ( her I think) already!! Here are some pics of our road trip home. I'm sure it was crushingly hard for her daddy to give her up. I hope he is comforted to know I will cherish her and give her the best life possible.

She has blue eyes! Does that make her red eyed lutino or dark eyed lutino??
More Pikachu eye candy. She escaped when i went to give her millet treat, so I let her chill for a bit.

As I post such pretty birdie pictures, I would like to add a warning.
Quakers are prone to feather plucking and Quaker mutilation syndrome, and screaming lots and lots of screaming. If you can not provide hours like at least five ( in my opinion) of out of cage hanging out interaction time, socializing , play and forage time, daily this species isn't for you, they will selfdestruct. They are an intelligent and social bird. There are literally hundreds being re-homed in my area every few months for the above reasons.

This was not the reason my bird was rehomed.

But I don't want people looking at pretty pictures and not thinking of the reality of parrot ownership. They are messy and loud and require hours of attention everyday for the next 20 years, not until the newness wears off, and this is true for all species of parrots. Sleeping in? Doesn't happen for most of us, the sun comes up and so does the birdie babble. There is often contention with significant others as well, either as jealousy from the parrot , or lack of accomodations and understanding from the non parrot person. Also they tear stuff up, my TV remote missing buttons, my phone got pierced by a beak and now I have no sound, my blinds are chewed up, valuables, sentimental iteams destroyed. My Kindle cracked when a parrot knocked it off. Parrot sitters , hard to come by. Specialized avain vet bills, expensive, 2-3 times higher than dogs or cats.
Ok done with public service announcement on behalf of parrots. :) If you love em you make it work, but you will make sacrifices

Pikachu is settling nicely. Wolfed down two tablespoons of pellets this morning. I tried to get her to taste veggies......lol.....after hand feeding veggies to every other bird in the house in front of her, she touched her beak to a few veggies. Then she was like ewwww and shook her head acting like it was the most aweful thing ever....
I rolled the other parrots cages outside, it's a perfect gorgeous day. So Pikachu could get to know me and the house. I got kisses purrs and cuddles this morning, but now she is being independent. One thing I love is she makes cockatiel sounds, from living with them. I live cockatiel sounds!!!! If only she could teach the flock theses sweeter sounds, than the Quaker awwkkkkkk awwkkkkkk, screeeam ....;)

When I brought home my rescue Penny she screamed from sunrise to sunset without stopping ( now rarely)! Neptune was still young do adopted this screach as normal...... He is screaming now
After spending time with Pikachu I'm starting to think he is male, so now I'm confused. Penny seemed so girly and the DNA test confirmed.... Neptune seemed to flirt with him/her but maybe Neptune is just a socialable guy? Pikachu guess I'll have to wait on DNA test... Hmmm

I’m so excited to see this!

I have a friend who knows about Quaker mutations I’ll ask about the blue eyes!

Thank you! I tried googling but couldn't find anything. I thought maybe they all have blue eyes and that's what they call red eyed, because the pupil does seem more reddish

They are blue grey , but I shined a flashlight in her eyes to check them and seemed very blue.
I was checking eyes because she has unusual hover flight, and it kinda seems like she needs glasses lol, but I sent the pic to vet and said eyes fine. It's a very subtle thing, she definitely sees and reacts from both eyes .... Lutino is close to albino ( right?) And albinos can have poor eyesight... This is the best eye pic I could get ;) t

In birds, “albino” should actually be called “blue lutino”

The lutino takes away all the blue, grey, black, etc, and the blue takes away the yellow, pink, orange, red, etc. so combining those two takes away everything and gives a white bird :)

As for poor eyesight, it should not be an issue if the bird is WELL BRED, but the red eyes do make them more sensitive to light.

In small birds like cockatiels you see a lot of inbred lutino and albino birds that are blind or nearly blind :(

Could you see the Blue? In light and in person more blue.
Her daddy was kind enough to give me her hatch certificate, and she came from a breeder who specializes in color mutation , infact was the breeder to first have lutino in the US.
She actually is larger and has better confirmation than my other two Quakers. Though she/he is yellow she looks more like the Quakers I saw twenty years ago when I first considered getting this species.
Anyway Pikachu has a great personality, but dang hates veggies!!!! So we working on that, but eats pellets like a champ
