Love at First Sight... again

So as y’all can tell by the ‘Parrots’ column, I fell in love with another quaker (or-as I told my mom- “It isn’t my fault I swear!”). I really should stay away from the Petco bird section honestly.

Long story short I went to get some bloodworms for my fish last Saturday and came out with some bloodworms minus a chunk of my heart.

So I spent a week getting everything ready and now my darling Avocado (Avi) is home... and named the most stereotypical thing ever thanks to my sense of humor.

Hopefully everything settles nicely. I’ll post pictures tomorrow morning.

Also I’ll probably post a poll as soon as I mail the DNA kit because the family is having a serious debate about the gender of the newest grandchild (they want a girl) and I respectfully disagree after having two boys and I need back up on this lol.

Yet more reasons to buy your pet supplies online - I walked into my local pet shop for bird food recently and there were not one, not two but FOUR GCC babies all wanting to come home with me, I got the hell outta there toot sweet!!

Congratulations on baby Avocado though and I hope you get your wish with the gender reveal!

Now my mamma hen part, I hope the cage pictured is just a temporary home?? Even if you use it as a travel cage I would ditch the dowels, and get wood , or rope ones. Feet health is important and they need at least one really wide per h that toe tips only curl around.
Ok you might now all that already, but other lurking readers night benefits from the info.

I can't wait as you discover your new guys personality. And seeing more pics if everyone.

No worries, Laurasea! Avi’s only going to be there until their big cage (36x22x60ish) comes in around Tuesday. I only put two perches in there because I wanted them to have room to stretch out their wings if needed. All in all a very temporary set up.

Quick update! Everyone is slowly settling down after the surprise sibling reveal. Bluebell seems to have fallen in lust with Avi after hearing their growling mumbles from afar; constantly calling for them.

Leo is as he always is— concerned and confused about the sudden increase in noise, but easily soothed by a small bundle of safflower seeds.

Avi... is slowly adjusting. Doesn’t trust me or my hands as far as they can throw me, but I expected that. If it takes six or more months to earn their trust I’ll survive the cold shoulder until then. They also are completely done with their temporary cage (so am I!), but thankfully it should be here in an hour or two. Hopefully we won’t have to fight beak and nail to go in as much. Woo day 4!

Cage was officially put together by 6pm last night, and Avi moved in at 12pm today!!!

The cage is still sparse on the bottom and busy on top, but the rest of the things should be in Saturday. Until then we’ll survive.

Avi seems happier already; taking a quick bath in their new water dish (sigh), playing with their bell, and eating up their seed/pellet mix like they just realized how good it is.

For now me and Leo are taking a quick snack break!
