Does this look good?

Decided I was going to make some formula today, this was just a quick make and basically

1. Cleaned everything
2. Boiled some water and waited for it to cool down to 107F
3. used 1/2 water 1/4 formula(I plan to reduce this as this was way to much, so maybe 2 table spoons of formula and 4 tablespoons of water(?)
4. Mixed them together and put the container holding the formula in another larger containing holding warm water(Previously boiled) and set till 107F was set.

You are planning to handfeed your new sun conure? Is this your first time? What brand formula are you using? Has someone shown you how to actually handfeed your bird?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but for some reason I thought your baby sun was going to be weaned when you brought it home.

The formula in your picture looks a little thick to me, but it could just be the picture, hard to tell without seeing the consistency. It should be very smooth and easily drawn up into the syringe. A sun conure almost weaned will eat between 15-20 cc's of formula, so you can look at your syringe to get a better idea of how much you need to make. Yours should be nibbling on some millet or other soft foods when you bring it home.

Guess, I should ask you how old your baby will be when you get it home. That would help determine the consistency of the formula and how many cc's it should be getting each feeding.

6 weeks old, yes it is unweaned(my dunce and I'm to far in to back out now).

The breeder will be showing me how to Sunday for the entire day as she feeds the bird(and I can meet my bird) and when I pick up I will be spending another day with her to be taught, I specifically asked her to do a lot of one on one time and she was nice enough to do it.

I'm using Zupreem Embrace Plus. It did look a bit thick to me and I have a 10 CC syringe and I'll cover the fine details with her Sunday lol as she shows me(I'm a visual person )

If heard all the criticisms of picking up a unweaned bird and I totally agree, at that time I admit I was lacking knowledge for lack of better words when it came to that subject at first, but by the time I actually got that far in my research(I've already put down the deposit when I found out anyways :/) it was to late.

Well, it is great the breeder is willing to spend some time with you and let you get some first hand experience handfeeding your baby. I like handfeeding my own so I can spoil them rotten and keep them babies as long as I want. You will enjoy the experience and at least you aren't getting a two week old, which is way more difficult and time consuming.

You will do fine. Pay attention to the instructions the breeder gives you. Make sure you feed your bird at least once before bringing it home, have a secure brooder or cage set up and relax and enjoy. You won't be feeding long anyway as they normally wean between 8-10 weeks.

I've always used Kaytee because of the consistency (you can't change now if Zupreem is what your baby is used to). Zupreem is a little thicker and harder to get blended properly but I found that a small fork is better than a spoon to get the smooth consistency you want.

I will be taking extra, and it may be thick as I was stirring it with the syringe so maybe a fork will change that.

The only problem I came across was that I either had to much or to little.

Getting the right amount at the right consistency and temperature, takes practice and lots of it. It is always better to make too much than too little. A hungry bird really does not like having to wait for formula to cool.

Ya, I was trien to figure out how to get it cool, I was using a basic thermoater but I may have to invest into a digital cooking one(the basic goes up to 110F).

I'll see what she does and if all else, just go to wally world and pick up the cooking one.

You know I'm not sure about weaning lol but when i watch the babies being fed it looks like cream of whatever soup.. so I'd say that consistency? GIVE US PICTURES MAN! LOL

Sabbath, you'll have a lot of fun feeding your baby, suns are easy to feed. Their crops usually hold around 20mls. And at the age of your chick it wouldn't be to long before its weaned so changing formula isn't a big issue. I always introduce baby fruits to the chicks food at this age to get them used to different tastes & textures.

I am sure the breeder will give you any information you might need. It's always so exciting when you get a new bird. I have some baby Green Cheeks hatch last week & i can hardly wait until they are old enough to pull for hand rearing. 2 are sold already but i will be doing all the rearing until weaned.

Everything is covered! Wow, we're getting quite a few breeders and ex breeders in here. How wonderful!!!! That consistency is just a bit thick....

I was a bit thick mickey but I wasn't sure how to get it to move more, it may have been that I didn't stir it enough or that I stirred it with the syringe rather than a fork or something.

I'll try round 2 Sunday at the breeders. BTW what do you guys do to get the temperature right? Any tips on that one?
