air toxin concerns

Tex and I were washing the dishes in the dishwasher tonight when we smelled something funny. It turned out that a plastic piece had fallen down in the dishwasher and was melting and putting off the horrible plastic smell. We immediately opened windows and put a fan blowing out on high etc. I am concerned about the birds. They seem to be fine and we have them in a room away from the kitchen, but should I be worried? Burning plastic is not good.

I think they'll be fine. That happened to me a few nights ago, where a plastic spatula was left on a hot burner by accident... gosh did it smell! Anyway the birds were fine. Maybe just keep an eye open on Ham and Mac just in case.

They will be fine, you did the right things there.

This happened to me a couple years ago, when Bucc was a baby and all of our guys were fine, Think I suffered more than they did, burning plastic is a horrible smell, could smell it for days afterwards.

ooo while we are on this subject....

What about AC units, summer is coming and hot days are ahead. Are ACs bad for our little guys... air too dry, too cold, gives off something I wasnt aware of... ect.

We don't have AC over here, well except in cars, and to have it put on the house isn't really viable, as it costs so much and the heat isn't really very reliable here. I know a lot of people with AC and birds and they don't seem to have any problems with it.

AC is air conditioning right? if it is it fine as long as its not like blowing straight at them, basicly same rules as if you had a fan.

Thanks guys. Its just that the smell is so horrible when it happens. Can't smell it at all now and everyone seems to be fine. I think Air Conditioning is fine too, although the birds would probably prefer the summer without it!

I have an AC unit, and I've never had a problem with the birds from it. Just make sure the vent isn't on them, and they will be just fine.

Seems like the only things we'll be needing this Summer is our waterproofs and the central heating.

My birds kinda prefer the warmer weather ... and it can get up to 35C / 95F or higher (rarely higher). I just use oscolating fans and keep those from blowing right onto the birds. That and opened windows. When the weather is good, they like to sit and talk to the outside birds, contact call strangers walking past (I live on a major road), and that kind of thing.
