How To Keep Parrots Calm

I am going to start volunteering at a local parrot rescue and they have alot of birds with many different temperaments. I was just wondering if anyone knew ways to maybe keep them calm or just body language that won't make them angry. I went in today for just a little while to talk to the owners and I still got bit. I am forseeing a bit of a problem with that and how much he said they bite so any thoughts are welcome.

well, watch and dont be afraid, its... well, I dont know how I do it... I just do it, and I never get bit.

my coworker asked me to help her with a "wild" kitten today. it was hissing and rolling upside down every time she reached for him. I just looked at the poor thing for a moment, lifted one hand and plucked him up with the other...Ive done that with "angry" dogs and "mean" birds too.

just.. Watch, learn to read them and DONT be afraid, they are 1/10 the size of you.

its easy if you take your time about it, but your never going to NOT get bit. so your just going to have to live with that.

hide your hands behind your back and do a lot a facial language and the least amount of body language. A series of noises to get their interest.. hope this helps

I may very well just be weird, but when I've visited our local bird sanctuary and met the birds, I sang to them. For most of the birds, it seemed to pique their interest and some of the fearful birds actually came closer to me on their perch.

I think singing is a non-threatening sound...as long as you're not singing harsh-sounding songs. I sang Beatles tunes
