Pearl has chewed most of the way through her main perch in the cage. Does anybody know where I can find 30 inch perches?

Thanks

I think I just bought a 28" one from Petco. 30" might be hard to find. Perhaps online or you could make one.

I'm thinking of making a whole new play gym out of a mulberry tree I lost recently.

Ok thanks to both of you. I looked at some dragon wood perches but they're not straight so I'm not sure they would fit.

Well, even though they aren't straight, the measurement is generally a straight line end to end. So if it says 30" it should reach even if it zig zags.

I also just took a perch that only had a screw at one end, but was wobbly, and drilled in another screw to make it sturdy. So you could possible extend a perch if it isn't long enough. Just use a stainless steel screw or bolt as zinc is toxic to birds (in case it chews on it).

If you can't find one you could always just get a large dowel from your hardware store and make one, or maybe you could use one of the rope perches and just make it fit since they are bendable?

When I don't have time to get one from the yard, I go to the hardware store and get a broom stick... lol

The best perches are from the safe wood trees in your area. You pick up branches that are new fallen or go to construction sites. There is a way to clean them and then dry. Most all of my branches in the cages are natural ones I have from trees. I just put them through the bars of the cage and you do not even need anything special such as a hook.

Hey sun, in the hardware store they'll have two types of dowels. First is pine or fir and ischeaper and safe. However your CAG will chew though it pretty quick. The other choice is a hardwood dowel that is made from oak, cost more but will last much longer. If you look up safe plants for birds ,oak is not on the list, this because the tannin found in the leaves and bark is harmful(possibly). However no bark or leaves on a hardwood dowel. I've used the oak perches for many, many years and never had a problem. This of course is here in the USA. Natural perches are better for your birds feet than smooth round dowels, which i only use in the breeder cage because they're easier to keep clean and the birds are too busy to do much chewing.PS remember that the perch needs to be larger diameter than your birds foot,in other words when your bird is perched, it's feet/nails should only reach about half way around the perch, maybe alittle more but front and back nails shouldn't meet (encircle the perch).
