Sand paper for perches?

I am making a perch for skippah.
I want to line the perch with a sandpaper to trim his talons.
I have bought a sheet of Garnet paper grade 240, made in Canada. (A open T2, it also says, what ever that means). Is this too coarse for his feet? Is there a general rule of thumb for what I should use?

I always thought that we wanted to stay away from sandpaper perches for our fids ... something about the sandpaper possibly opening up sores/cuts/abrasions on the non-clawed part of their feet ... can someone verify for me?

I don't like sandpaper on their feet ... I have heard the same thing as Tex was saying. But, it you MUST, then I'd use the finest one you could find. You could maybe give Skippah an emery board to play with (please, if this is a no no then someone please say something).

sandpaper covers are bad for birds, so i'm assuming a sand paper perch would be too.

In the spirit of good advice, well taken, I have changed my design to use an old canvas belt glued to the perch instead of sand paper.
Thanx for the heads up.
Pictures to follow, maybe.

What kind of glue are you using .... Perhaps something non-toxic (like wrapping rope around it to secure it).

Ok,....
1st,...... the excuses.
1) I got putty everywhere, I have to sand it down and re paint it.
2 The putty is still wet, so I haven't yet got the stems straight. I will get them right as hardens.
3) I used a non toxic fabric glue for the canvas perch
Ok,....so here it is so far, not yet able to takes skippahs weight as the putty isn't dry
Debbie says it it looks like a Dildo-stand in a single girls apartment.
But I like it,...I think.

The stand is great,

Emery board I used to give one to Bucc but now I file my nails (or lack of them since they bite them off) and when they come over to see what I'm doing they will actually let me do theirs. I know you probably dont wanna be filing your nails but maybe when Debbi is doing hers you could let Skippah see this, one of you may just be able to do his.

these are great for small birds my teils love them they are so light weight you can put them anywhere without having it pull on the bars of the cage.

Prototype 1 fell to bits after 30 seconds of Skippah standing on it.
Here is Prototype 2.
I have bought some cloth tape instead of painting it and I will get another bowl for water.
I will fill the hollow legs with sand to give the base some weight.
Any thoughts before I glue into place?

Ok
Here is step 2 of prototype 2.
I added a poo catcher that you can fill with sand.
I have glued it solid and now have to wrap it in cloth tape to make it pretty.
I am adding adhesive felt to the perch areas to give some grip.
what have I missed?

Ok.
Debbie suggested I wrap it in hairy twine.
Then no one will know its pvc.
Any words on hairy twine?

Not sure on the hairy twine, might catch his feet/claws on it. You can also get vet wrap to wrap round it, if you can find it there.

I know a guy who has two Macaws and he makes a lot of pvc stands for his boys and never uses glue only vet wrap and they last for years.

Im on my way to hospital for a check up, So I will post up a pic when I return, But while was showering he took 3 minutes to find out that cork can be ripped to shreds,...and its fun. I need need to find a better covering, maybe a thick piece of carpet.

OK, here is stage 3. This time I'm seeing if he can destroy it before I have to do the whole thing.

Next step is get comfy and learn some patience and do it all from the seed catcher upwards. Will be easier as its a straight line.

How about getting some corks and hanging them from the perch, he might just leave the stand but destroy the corks
