I've heard yes and no. There's a seller on ebay that has this quote below. I asked what she use's, but she did not say what material it is.

Ad on ebay-

"NO Vet wrap used on my perches, because no matter what they say , the birds chew it off and it deteriorates from usage in shower. I have owned and raised All types of Birds for 20 yrs, so when I make these I am always thinking of the Birds safety and enjoyment"

Her reply-

"Its a special covering we use that our avairy bird vets have recommended we went to them first to see if they approved..we have used this for many many yrs, and it keeps our birds nails in great shape
thanks, bonnie"

I think it's fine as long as they don't actually ingest it. As for shower perches, you will need to change it once in awhile. I'm using it on mine. Pete doesn't even think of pulling it off when he's in the shower.

Good. I guess anything the ingest can be harmful, even plastic toy's. Like a child, you just have to monitor them. I'll just get some and make the shower perch and other's myself. With the reef tank hobby, I have LOTS of pvc pipe.

Is there a cheaper place to buy the vet wrap ? I would assume it's expensive from them.

I wrapped my heated perch in vet wrap because it is hard plactic. It is really tough to take it off and put on fresh wrap. It does do the job though. No problems with my bird ingesting it.

Me, too, but I also always have some on hand for the horses or any other animal that might need it, including humans. The kid down the road fell off his motorcycle and had bad road rash on his arm. I went running down there with some so we could clean him up, put on bandages and use the vet wrap to hold the bandages in place without ripping hair off his arm.
