I searched and found a little bit in some of the threads, these are ok as treats? When I went shopping yesterday I looked in the produce section and didn't find anything except like candied, salted and peanuts in shell.

I forgot a few things and went to the other store in town, it's just a grocery store. Bulk peanuts-def not..some other bulk nuts..macadamia I think or something..then I found some small plastic boxes..again most of them were salted or candied or something..then I saw pine nuts..looked at the ingredients and nothing else is listed, no salt or anything. Are these ok for the birds for treats?

I too found the wee little package at our grocery store of pine nuts for the birds....was going to use them as very special treats. Neither bird cared for them....my husband and I enjoyed everyone one of those expensive buggers ( and the FAT content-whoa!) but darn they were good. LOL

Pine nut is good for birds, contains protein.
I actually gave them to Mishka when weaning him, because they were soft and healthy for him.
They are very very expensive here in S.A. R450.00 per kg.
Used them in my business, so Mishka got spoilt and still eats them today.

I guess that explains why the bill for just three items was so high, I didn't see a price posted anywhere for them.

I did check Wal-mart first, that is, regrettably, where I do most of my shopping. The other store in town is just a grocery but prices are higher on many things.

Walmart did have bags of peanuts but they were in shell and I'd rather just stay clear of that, especially from a Walmart, corporate is nothing but yahoos. (I'm not a bandwagon Walmart basher in case anyone is wondering, I worked for one recently for 7 1/2 years, I know what I'm talking about :53:)

Thanks for the replies. Jasper seems to like them and I like them because they are soft enough to break up for Tico. I tried one and it didn't seem to have much taste I thought but yeah, it seemed fatty.

Safira LOVES pine nuts. The two greys pick at them, but they haven't figured out how yummy they are yet. I'm sure they will.

I bought them at a wholesale online food store, organic and out of the shell. They're very expensive, but great as treats.

American Bulldog Mix,
From my information from breeders and pet shop owners, pine nut are OKAY for your parrot to use as treats. I have never met a single bird that does not love them. However, most birds prefer them shelled. However, I was told that prices of them shelled went up last year, so I have switched to unshelled. They are much healthier than sunflower or saflower seeds.
