I bought this really nice bird carrier online the other day.. I used it right away to take her to the vet, thats when I saw that the mesh on that carrier was very weak... She started chewing little holes thru it... :( I really like this carrier but I don't know what to do to either prevent her from chewing it or how to make the mesh stronger...

I love that they say it's perfect for the airline. An adult bird in the main cabin would make me soooooo miserable.

Maybe you could buy some stainless steel mesh and attach it somehow? Do you have a picture/link to it?

Thank you Rio Mom! that sounds like a good idea if I can pull it off somehow... I'll try to stop by the home depot tomorrow.

I ended up buying the metal mesh and hopefully made my bird carrier stronger! I'm going to San Francisco this weekend and since I don't have anyone to watch her I have to take her with me.. I hope she can't chew thru the carrier this time!!
Any tips for traveling with a bird???

just got my new carrier today at the pet expo in orange co. ca today! I don't have an actual pic yet so here is the link: Celltei Pak-o-Bird Small Size Parrot Carrier

I am taking the introduction slow and easy for Hahnzel, he's a bit sketchy but seems to be easing into it slowly.

I would be real careful buying mesh from the hardware store as most are not stainless steel!!!! Your bird CAN get metal poisoning.

Celltei carriers are FANTASTIC, but if you have a chewer, or a strong beaked bird, they recommend the stainless steal mesh. Always pay slightly extra for the stainless steel!! Also, any carrier of any variety, other than hard plastic, will eventually have some chew spots and wear and tear that will need to be repaired.

IMO, these are the best, most comfortable carriers for both the bird and the human.

thanks for the link!! it looks like a sturdy bird carrier. Let me know how Hahnzel likes it!

all I want is a cute stylish carrier that looks more like a purse than a carrier but is strong enough for my little chewer... is that too much to ask?
hehehehe

Angie actually has one of her carriers that fits on ur shoulder. Once Hahnzel is inside of the pack he sits quietly until we get outside, then he starts talking softly to me. The thing I enjoy most now is having freedom to go out with him and know he's both included and safe. And now I can go out for walks with the dog and not feel guilty that he's being neglected when I first get home.
