For starters you be the one to feed/water him. Only you play/sit with him for he first few days. Give the chance to bond with you then you can introduce him to other people. Feed him treats from your hand, not too many though. Sit with him and talk with him for the first few days and let him get used to you. I did all of this with my male gcc and he only tolerates me, I say tolerate because he doesn't really like anybody that comes near his girlfriend.

Parrots are very intelligent and they're individuals just like people. And just like you don't like every person you meet, neither will a parrot. And just like you have people you like a lot more than other people, so will a parrot.

There are no guarantees. Your parrot will like who it likes and bond to whoever it chooses to bond to. The best way to get a bird that will bond to you is to interact with a lot of birds until you find the right one. Volunteering at a rescue is an excellent way to do this. I did and ended up with a parrot I'd never considered before because I went in to the rescue with the idea that I wanted a macaw after a lot of reading and research. Turns out a macaw didn't want me, but an amazon did, and he's awesome. :)

Yes as lizardsmells said, not every parrot will like you but you so you have to meet a bunch of them and let them choose you. But once the parrot likes you you can help it actually bond to you by playing/interacting with him more than your family.

Short of total isolation, there's no guarantees. There are a few things you can do that will help though.Like someone said earlier, pick a pet that picks you. Learn to do things a birds mate would do. Preening is a good example, learn to preen your pet, this will endear him to you. A lively ,outgoing and fun personality will help. Be the one to greet your fid in the AM and cuddle in the PM before bed time. All that being said learn to "read" your fid and be careful of flooding him with too much attention. Keep your interactions relatively short and leave him wanting more from you. You don't want to drive him away because your smothering him with your affections.Yes you need to socialize your new bird , but intro a couple of new people briefly every day,do things and take him with you during normal everyday activities. I can't stress enough how important it is to find a bird who shows an interest in you, regardless if it's a handfeed baby or older rehome.

Take him into another room and just let him get used to you! Give him treats, talk to him and play with him.
(But I dont have a parrot yet so I cant tell you from experience)
and this has nothing to do with answering your question but, is there any way to get a parrot to bond to everyone?

Glue!

haha. :D

My thoughts exactly! Haha!

There is never any sure-fire way to ensure a parrot bonds with a specific person. I've known people who lived alone with their bird for decades, someone comes over and suddenly the parrot is in love with the guest in a way it's never been with the owner.

I handfed a TAG; I was also assured by being the one to feed her, especially handfeeding, she would bond with me. This was not the case and she very much bonded with my husband who was rarely ever home.

Like the saying goes; the only guarantee in life is death and taxes.

ok how about an older bird??

when nut is in season, its all about my man! but when she is out of season, its mostly about me

so i suggest older bird as i think they would have grown out of the *in season stage

from what i can gather, baby birds seem to love who ever feeds them, then they get hormonal, all hell breaks loose, till it gets over the hormones

but still thats no guarantee, that'll work

is it that important to you that the bird be solely for you??

this is also completly irrelevent to the rest of the thread but i didnt think i should start a whole other thread about it.
okay, i live in new york state. and i plan to get a quaker and they are illegal in some states so i was looking to make sure they are legal here and they are. but ALL pet birds mest be banded(with a band around their foot). does this hurt the bird? if it does i wouldnt even get a bird . but if it is completly safe and WILL NOT hurt the bird i am fine with it.

Quakers are legal in New York. :) Ralph, pictured in my avatar, is a New York State Quaker.

Most likely, whatever parrot you get will already be banded. Generally, it doesn't hurt the bird to be banded. Most parrots live comfortably with their legs bands, and ignore them, but some hate the bands and fuss with them, and occasionally, the bands have to be removed (usually done by an avian vet).

Parent's have, I baby sit a blue crown conure.
My husband and I adopted a rescue blue and gold macaw.
Keep him away from my father. All birds like my dad. He's not even a calm person at all, yet I haven't seen a bird not like him the best. I can't figure out the charm. He even had pigeons that would follow him back and forth to school when he was a kid.

He will talk with them frequently. That is the only thing that I can tell helps. I do too, but it's my father who they just adore.

Cappie came home two weeks ago. at the beginning he picked my girl, but after fed/water everyday, and being respectful and waiting for him to decide on what he wants. he has totally picked me as his bonded mate. If i dont take him with me he will jump off his playstand and follow me or try to find me...so my advice is be cool be watchful for your birds behaviors, and be there!

Give the bird lots of love and attention, go slowly and be very patient.
Be the first one to feed him etc, for a few weeks, then gradually let others offer him treats. Let them bond with him occasionally.

The reason I think this is so important is....
What if you went away for a few days, or got ill. In that way he will be used to other people caring and feeding him as well.

When I got my first African Grey, he was 7 years old and grew up in the Congo.
He only spoke a black language LoL and we some how managed to communicate.
I spoke to him daily, and gave him treats .
He began to step up onto a stick after a week, then a month later onto my hand.
Only after 3 months did he allow my guys to hold him.
A few months later he began talking, saying single words. I went very slowly with him, allowing him to understand the meaning of the words correctly.
A year later he became such a chatterbox, and there was no stopping him.
