Here's the deal I had 3 lovebirds . 2 of them are in a ez care bow front in my living room and little green bird because he gets bullied has his cage hanging in my room next to the counter where his play gym and treats are . I try and keep the cage doors clamp with clips but he's like houdini and always escapes so I tell everyone if you enter my room make sure you shut the door when leaving and make sure you don't lock Dexter the cat inside . Today is a sad day . Someone left the door open green bird got out of his cage and you guys know the rest . After all the cursing and fussing I've been doing I've calmed a little and I want another bird . My CAG is due home july 8 and i plan to have his cage setup in the living room with a nice play stand in my bedroom . I'm looking for new homes for the other 2 lovebirds so it was just gonna be my CAG who I've named Smokey and LittleGreenBird . I planned to bring smokey home and the after a quarantine period introduce them and hope all went well . Now that plan is ruined . Is it a good idea for me to get an indian ringneck now and in july bring smokey home

Well, I'm going to jump in here and say what others are probably going to say as well. What are your future plans with Smokey and the cat? I am not jumping on you and I am very sorry for your loss however you now know as a fact that your cat will attack your bird. I know that a cag is much larger than the love bird however I am afraid of this situation. Cat saliva is deadly to our birds, even if Smokey just gets a scratch. I don't think that there is anything wrong with getting an IRN first but I guess you should ask your self what is your motivation in getting one right now. I know that I rescued a lilac crown amazon prior to getting my dream bird (a cag) She took/takes alot of patience, energy, time. I love her however I resuced her because of a bad situation and will always know that I did the right thing. It is so tempting to get more birds as they are quite addicting however it might be nice for you to be able to concentrate on your new cag first. Since you do have several pets to juggle it might make it easier.

Smokey will be housed in a cage that he can't escape and he will only be out when myself or my wife are home which will be most of the time . Dexter would not have done this if someone was around . I used to have them together all the time but never unsupervised . Green Bird should have been in a cage with locking doors . if i get a bird to replace GB i'm surely not using that cage .
