We have a double yellow headed Amazon who is approximatly 6-7 years old and we have owned her for 1 1/2 years. We thought she was a male how ever she laid 2 eggs about 30 days ago which are infertile as she has not been around any other birds. She is still siting on the eggs, how long should we let her sit on them our do we need to remove them? She is eating and going to the bathroom regularly. She is not aggressive towards us at all and will let us touch the eggs but I am afraid she will lay more if we just remove them. She laid her eggs in a box which I have read that we should remove when we remove after this. Any advice or input on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum.
Just let her sit on the eggs until she loses interest in them or until they break. Once she is done with them remove the box because nest boxes cause this kind of behavior.

If it has been 30 days you can go ahead and remove them and the box. Provide her with extra calcium, cut her daylight hours by 1-2 shorter, cut back on warm and mushy foods and provide lots of foraging opportunities to keep her busy.

Oh, I must have missed the fact that she has been on them for 30 days. Yes if it has been 30 days it has been "full term" and she should know they won't hatch so you can go ahead and remove the eggs and the nest box.

If they are looking gross then I throw them away. Some females will eat the eggs when they are done with them and you have to worry about what has been growing in the eggs the last 30 days. If they aren't cracked and if you shine a light through them and see nothing but a clear yellow haze, then I'd let her have them for a few more days. Sometimes they will just lay another clutch once you remove the first so unless there is reason to suspect the first eggs are growing something nasty, I just leave them with the mom.
