Hi everyone

I recently got a lutino indian ringneck parrot. He was only 3 months old. Everything was normal and he was very happy but last night he died. He was very active and would love to eat fresh grapes. He was fine till the time i put him to bed, he was playing around and everything. so as usual i like to check up on him during the night to see how hes doing because hes so young. i noticed that he was no longer sitting on his branch but he was sitting on the bottom of the cage sleeping. i didnt make anything of it thinking that he had a long day and was just tired so i let him sleep. a few hours later when i checked up on him he was laying on the bottom of the cage dieng so i tried to call a 24 hr animal hospital and a few moments later he died. All of this happened so suddenly i dont know what to do. i lost my friend today:( and i dont know what happened or what went wrong. Thats why im here today to figure out what happened. if you guys can please help me determine why he died all of a sudden it would be very appreciated.

i live in the basement of our house so it gets a bit cooler than normal but i would wrap a blanket around the cage before he would sleep. maybe it was too cold for him? he also fell from the top of the cage earlier that day but seemed perfectly fine because after that i fed him and played for a bit. is it something in my house that was bad for him? or was it too cold? or he was sick? i dont know, plz help

I'm so sorry for you loss...and such a young baby too! It's difficult to tell without a walk around your house and a look through your cabinets and seeing what is going on in general. Do you use air fresheners, teflon, carpet cleaners, perfume, etc. As for temps, supposedly birds are to be in 65 - 85 degrees Fahrenheit. It's always possible that the blanket you used to wrap his cage did not let enough oxygen into the cage. hard to tell without more info.

Was he eating good? I almost lost Forrest at that age.....I was trying to force him to eat pellets and he was literally starving. He was so weak he only wanted to sit on my neck under my hair all the time. Finally I put him back on seeds and he perked up within a few days.
That is why I caution everyone to not try to force pellets on them too soon.

Do you have teflon in your house? Any kind of room deodorizers? Any kind of sprays? Air fresheners, etc? Just grasping at straws here trying to help you figure it out. I don't even know what Indian Ring neck diets are supposed to be.

How tall was the cage? When they are young they should be in a shorter cage. Maybe he hurt himself when he fell earlier. We were told to start our babies in a shorter cage because of that.

I'm sorry for your loss...

If you want to know, why he died, you need to take him to an avian vet, and get an autopsy done... It's called something else for birds...

No one on this forum can tell you why he died...

None of us can tell you why it happened, we can only give you our condolences.

You need to take his body to the vet to get a necropsy done, that will give you the answers you are looking for.

So sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your loss, he may have been ill before you got him you never know, do not instantly think it's your fault, because I am sure it isn't. You were a great owner because you can see you cared a lot. May he be at peace! x

ALSO :O I used a little but of air freshener in the corners away from my animals, is that really bad, if so I will ditch it immediately! (Like, not a lotis sprayed just a bit over my bed)

The problem with aerosols is that they carry rather easily. We open up the living room windows, and the back door - it normally generates quite a wind tunnel.

Yeh with my pet rats in my room I have to air it out every morning or so! Thankfully I have windows either side of my room I will be sure to open them all up!

I'm so sorry for your loss:( On another forum I remember somebody posted about losing their birds because they ate non organic grapes that had pestisides on them. You won't know without doing the autopsy of course but I noticed you mentioned he loved grapes.
