Connection differences between a budgie and a bigger parrot?

This is a question i have thought of for a long time and why i wanted a bigger bird in the first place. I always assumed that birds with a small memory will not be able to have the same connection with its human partner as a bird with a bigger memory. When you mess up with a budgie, he will forget everything about it a minute later. This can be a good thing but also bad since all the good things you do also gets forgotten to a degree. I heard that the connection you can have with a bigger bird is more deeper. This is what made me start to wonder more about it so if he or others can elaborate on it, that would be great.

But to those of you who have owned budgies and then owned bigger parrots, How has the connection between you and each of the birds differed? Did you see any big differences in how well you two connected? Or did your bigger parrots have the same connection with you as the budgie?

Keep in mind that this is not a question about who you can teach more tricks to or talking.

I have never had budgies, I do have cockatiels , it seems to me the biggest difference between them and "larger" parrots is the tiels and budgies change mates though out their life times and are more "flock" oriented than say amazons who mate for life and form "deeper" stronger bonds with their mate.(bird or human)

13yr. old male umbrella cockatoo,
we call him Amigo!

7yr. old Goffin cockatoo, she IS Sassy!!
My U2, Amigo, is scary intelligent, doesn't miss a beat and does not forget ANYTHING! My only other bird to compare him to is Sassy, a goffins 'too. I can also watch her thinking, analyzing and forming her next move, in her mind. You tell me, I don't know how budgies are.

I agree with paulhanlon. I honestly think you are generalizing far too much. Budgies may be small but they can be some of the smartest little birds. Different breeds have different personalities, different mating habits, different talking abilities etc. I doubt that you could judge their ability to recall traumatic events by their physical size. If you have not yet read it I recommend you take a look at "Alex and Me" by Dr. Irene Pepperberg. Just my 2 cents.

i am the mom of three parrots:
Dorothy- African grey (cag)
Bowie- blue and gold macaw
Nellie- hyacinth macaw
Reggie- hyacinth macaw
Marnie- white bellied caique
Budgies hold the record for most words known. This tells me they are quite intelligient. I do think that what henpecked said is very true and is probably why they make such good family pets, they tend to take to more than one person. I think that size is not a good way to judge a birds intelligience.

The world record holder for largest vocabulary ,something like 1800 words, is an English budgie. That does not sound like a small memory to me. I'm not sure size matters as much as the relationship you develop with them.
