Wing trim before molt complete?

I have an appointment tomorrow to get Tico's wings and nails done. I was just looking him over and he still has a few flights that aren't molted out yet. He has been molting since this spring and still has sheaths on his head I try to rub loose for him (hard because he's such a little guy). This probably isn't a good idea to do it until he's done molting is it? I was wondering how far along he was and if they would know beforehand if he had a bloodfeather still. I got to looking and he has at least one feather on each wing near the front that still is clipped so they haven't been replaced yet.If he gets clipped now and those come in and stick out there's probably a high chance of them breaking off isn't there? I probably should cancel and hope they come in within the month so I can get him in before the move.

A good vet should know better, a good avian vet, but there's all types. What do you think of your vet. I'd explain about blood feathers if you see any. They won't molt all of their flights at one time. Some this molt some the next. Just because they're clipped doesn't mean they'll molt first chance they get. If they where pulled they should get replaced but not always when cut.

Maybe my question wasn't real clear. I know he goes through a molt once a year that generally lasts the spring and most of the summer. I understand just because a wing is clipped doesn't mean it's going to be replaced straight away.

Do they molt out *all* their feathers every year? I've never really had to deal with this before because I've only had him clipped the one time.

If they do all get replaced eventually during the molt then these feathers haven't been replaced yet because they are still clipped.

If I get him clipped now and then after the clip those feathers that haven't been replaced yet do come in, that is probably a bad thing and easier for them to break because they are sticking out all by themselves?

I don't take him to the vet for this, he goes to the place I bought Jasper. I don't worry about their experience because I know they have oodles and woudn't let someone be doing trims that didn't know what they were doing.

I'm probably worrying for nothing. If it turns out she won't do it or advises against it then the worst will just be that Tico has had to have a dreaded car ride. (He always gets car sick, poor guy) They both could use some more toys since I donated a chunk of what I had to the shelter. And they have two baby macaws I want to cuddle one..:D

Thank you for the response though. I appreciate all you people here that have had birds and bred birds for the number of years you all have. There is still so much to learn and I am truly grateful for those of you with so much knowledge to draw on and share. :)

Usually they go though more than one molt a year. Usually one molt is more extensive and the other kind of minor. They may not replace every flight feather every year. If you clip now and one or two molt out then he'll have a feather or two sticking out. You could always clip that your self (Got a guide in front of you). I would clip those odd feathers to keep from breaking them. Will he let you clip them, can you handle him well enough? If not then your better off to take him and let the "bad guy" do it, LOL. Thanks just trying to help a few birds out.
