I've been thinking about going to school to become a vet technician, then studying avian medicine. I've already taken a few certificate programs online. They arent recognized by colleges but it taught me a lot. I'm avian biology certified, so basically I know a lot about a birds body. and I took an all natural avian medicine certificate program...

I know I want to become my areas first board certified avian specialist, and I'm giving up my ideas of leaving my hometown to party hard in some cool new city and go to shows and tour the world with the bands lol silly but those were my goals until I got birds.

Now I just want to help birds, breed birds, start a safe bird store inside of my shop, and a pastry shop.

I want to treat birds with minor injuries in a less invasive way, such as with healx products. I want to board birds while people vacation (that way I can vacation too! just have my associates watch them) I want to breed turquoise conures, sun cheeks, any kind of special conure really.
I want to have a fridge section with foods my clients can buy for their birds.
I want to have a room just for clipping wings and test flying them to make sure they dont need a retrim.
I want to send clients home with healx products like sunshine factor.
I want to sell discounted cages, toys, and food products for birds.
I know I also want an adoption room, there are a lot of unwanted cockatiels and parakeets in this area.
I know I want a breeding section. I want to have free seminars where I will talk about bird no-nos, myths, and how to handle a bird, how to train, etc.. all will be free seminars and if you go to the class I will send people home with a booklet about kinds of birds, kinds of products, and coupons for my store.
I know I want to become a board certified avian specialist.. I want to do mobile clippings.
I want to help other bird owners meet other bird owners and host parties where people can bring birds.
Its going to take a long time to get to my goals, but atleast I'll have something to look forward to!! I was always obsessed with who i'd be, where i'd go, and what i'd do with my life.. nothing was ever good enough and I always thought I deserved a "better" life. I could never appreciate what I had right infront of me. I dropped out of highschool with cancer and never finished. I married a stage manager at the age of 18 and toured all over europe.. after my divorce, I ended up 19 and living with my parents. Now i own their house and have parrots.. and I'm content staying right here!

This is the perfect small city to take advantage of. Its growing in population, we just got a petco, there arent a lot of stores to compete with.. we have one avian vet that does a poor job.. and one breeder..ME!

while everybody my age is running off seeking better cities, I'm going to stay right here and map out my life. :09:

It sounds like you have wonderful plans and goals! I think that is so great! I am sure you will succeed at your goals and be successful! Good luck and keep up the good work. I love to see young folks with a plan and determination to make it work.

Admirable ambitions! In my lectures about birds, I always stress that this field is wide open. There are so many things to do. You have a lot of good ideas. And with the internet, you won't be restricted to your own town. I've spent my life with birds, starting back when it was unpopular and unknown. I was "that crazy guy with all those birds". Now, there are so many different opportunities. Good luck!

Great ideas, I also want to do somthing with birds for my life. Right now I'm a bird babysitter. I have a cockatiel and a blue gold macaw I'm babysitting right now . My dream job is to own a birds only petstore and breed a few birds like parakeets, different kinds of conures and a few macaws in the petstore. I also want to start a program that teaches newbies how to care for birds free. first wanted to be a vet but I changed my mind.

We have similar aspirations!

I'm currently in training as an animal care assistant, going to go on to be a vet nurse and do specialist training in avian care. When I'm all nice and certified with experience, I will look into opening my own avian clinic and providing lots of free support to owners who shrug off the need for a vet, or avian vet because of the price.

I'm also unwell and it gave me a nice kick up the bum to stop thinking about what others want me to do and focus on what I really want to do and if I'm honest, I'm not happy unless I'm helping animals, or owners improve animal care!

Good luck to you, keep us all updated as you tick off each achievement!
