:green:Hello,
I hope this finds everyone in the bird community happy and healthy. I have some news.
I finally got my new baby Quaker(Chino) on Saturday. I am very new at the parrot parent deal. However, I have had several budgies that are doing great. I have even had some new parakeet babies that I have hand fed and tamed wonderfully.
But, my Quaker is a different story I have done a a lot of home work on this bird. Most of the material that I have read wants the bird left in the cage for a week or so that they can adjust. I spend the majority of the day with my birds. What is a good amount of time for me to wait before I attempt to let him/her out of the cage. Chino has already trusted me enough to take a treat from my hand while in the cage. Chino was also a hand fed baby and is 4 months old. Also, how soon should I start with the bathing.
Thanks for your input I am looking forward to what you all will tell me.:):green:

You can bath him anytime now as long as he doesn't get cold drafts. Being so young i think you should work with him from day one. When to let him out depends, is he flighted ? Is your house safe for a flighted bird? Your going to have to cross that bridge sooner or later, might as well be now.

Thanks for the info. Chino's wings have been clipped. I noticed that he does not seem to want to eat the veggies that I have fixed for him this morning he has an assortment of mixed veggies that are cooked and some fresh chopped celery ,greens, banana, and hard boiled egg with the shell.
I look forward to talking with you soon!

It's always nice to welcome another Quaker to the flock. :)

If you think Chino may be ready to venture out of his cage, you might try leaving the cage door open and see if he wants to come out. It's a good idea to provide a safe and convenient place for him to step onto when he does come out-- a hanging perch just under the cage door works well.

I've always handled my birds from the first day, although with Puck I probably shouldn't have been so pushy. He was a bit freaked out after his move. He was almost 4 when I got him though.

I've always handled ALL of my birds from day one, to me the sooner you start the better. Especially babies, they should be able to be handled from day one if they were properly handfed and socialized in the first place. I handfed the Quaker I had at one point so I never had issues with him except he did become cage aggressive once he mature as he loved his toys.
