I moved from an apartment to a duplex in the country. I have the main level and full unfinished basement. I love where I live, but I am afraid the parrots do not feel the same. We have a huge owl, bald eagle, and hawk that love to perch in the trees outside the house. This causes the parrots to SCREAM! Sometimes all day, and to be honest I am not a fan of having to have my shades shut all day.

The only room on the main level the parrots can be in is the living room, otherwise I have a huge space in the basement that I could convert into a bird room for them, and then I could bring them up to the living room during their outside cage hours, and back to the parrot room during the times they aren't out, but I am torn. I feel like I would be sending them to the dungeon if I put them in the basement. But yet, my ears can no longer handle the screams, and obviously they are freaked out by the large birds of prey that like to hang out... And I really enjoy sunlight. Any suggestions?

I have looked into lighting. UV lights... Whole nine yards. I just want to get others opinions on giving them a room, that happens to be in the basement....

I think a bird room is a good idea (I'd love to have one myself!)

But tinting/filming is also a great idea, or even having lacey type shades that will still let light in, but offer some privacy.

I should have mentioned that I rent. I can't put window tint up, but anything in the basement is OK. There is already carpet down there, a bathroom and laundry room.

I wish there was something that I could do, but I am surrounded by woods. This is their home, and I do believe the owls nest in the woods behind the house. The bald eagle I see often when I am riding my horse on the land next to the property I live on. It is really beautiful where I am at. Nature at every corner... The parrots just don't feel the same way about country life.

Welcome back:)

I think the Basement would be ideal as a Bird Room, if you could put the UV lighting in there.

OK. I am feeling much better about this. Thank you! :D They of course would have all the proper lighting, and if they wanted to, could scream to their hearts desire. ;) I think they will be much happier down there. No big scary monsters flying past windows. I'll give them a radio, and they will still have their out of cage time upstairs with me. Less stress for everyone I think.

Maybe in time you can move them upstairs again, once they adjust, but really I think they'll be fine in the basement. It's better than stressing them out seeing big predators all the time!

Tough renting... but I see your point!

Make sure there's no mold or anything in the basement and it has clean (not stagnant air), and I'm sure it'll be fine once you set it up for your birds!

Sounds like an ideal situation for both you and them:) Problem solved LOL
