Salt lamps - bird safe?

I know birds have very sensitive respiratory systems. Do Himalayan salt lamps have negative effects on birds? They're supposed to "cleanse" the air, so I thought it might be a good thing, but I want to make sure before I start using it.

I don't see any reason they'd be harmful. They are supposed to be good for you. I had a huge one next to Puck's cage. It just occurred to me that I didn't have it by his cage after I moved, and he started getting sick a few months later. =\

I would have to say that no, it's probably not healthy for parrots, and in fact could potentially be dangerous to them.

I could be wrong, but it is from my understanding that an ionizer can be dangerous to parrots over an extended period of time. This amount of time may vary depending on the bird, as it could be short exposure or long exposure.

The salt lamp also produces ions, so I would say it's better to be safe than sorry and don't use it.

Ions from what I have read are safe. It's ozone that is dangerous.

Sorry but i can't see any real benefits.By their own suggestions,"get a air purifier". that and in their opening statment they;re warning against "internet experts". Just someone else trying for a quick buck,IMO

Follow their advice and get a air purifier. IMO just another "internet expert" trying for a quick buck. If you don't have an issue ,why create one, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Parent's have, I baby sit a blue crown conure.
My husband and I adopted a rescue blue and gold macaw.
They are just pretty. I wouldn't use one to purify the air, but cause it's neato looking.

I take it with a grain of salt (no pun intended) so I really just use it as a lamp. I'll wait to see what more members say about it before I decide to use it...I don't wanna take any chances.

I have one, and from my understanding one lamp isn't enough to really make a difference in any way, in how one feels or in the conditions of the air. Others I know that swear by these lamps have at least two in their main room of their home and 3-4 throughout the entire floor them occupy most.

OMG folks, Its a Hunk of Salt that has a light bulb in it!

Short of putting it in a pot of water and 'with time' making salt water (please remove the electrical components first) there are no supper powers about it other than getting people to part with their hard earned money!

If you have that kind of extra cash available, buy toys for your Parrot!

The most basic claims of these lamps are backed up to a degree by basic science, the biggest issue is just how much impact a single lamp can have and the more outrageous claims made aren't really knowable.

Incredible. Totally amazing. Unbelieveable.

Not the salt lamps, but the fact there are over 7,000 views on this .
