Hi everyone :)
If my dad clips Cocky's wings (sulphur crested 'too), how high would he be able to fly off the ground? Or when my dad clips his wings he wont be able to fly at all?
Mike:)

Hi Mike,

If the parrot is on the ground, it won't be able to fly, maybe a little bit, but no more than a meter. But if it is up high, it would still can fly, not too far though, but it won't be able to fly upwards.

And does your dad know how to clip parrot's wings? If he clipped too far, it would cause bleeding, but if too short, the parrot would still be able to fly.

It is best to not clip the parrot since that's what are are born to do, but it depends. Some houses are not suitable for parrots that can fly.

Hope this helped

Thanks,
I asked because the parrot is going to be outside, and I was wondering if it could fly over the fence. Yes my dad knows where to clip.
Mike:)

Outside she should have a harness. One gust of wind under the wings and I've heard they can still fly clipped or not.

My cousins cockatoo goes outside without clipped wings and doesn't fly away, (because he's trained), and my other cousins is clipped, not trained outside all day & no issues. What if I keep his stand under the outside verandah?
Mike.

If you mean outside as in going for walks, then I recommend you get a harness. Because they can still fly for a short distance, even if they're clipped.

I think the aviator harness are the best. You can get it at the "the parrot university" website. It cost $35 in ANY size, free shipping world wide! I already have two for my cockatiels and it worked great. And I'm getting one for my alexandrine parakeet this week! :)

I wouldn't risk it, it only gives us a false sense of security. I vote to keep your sulfur flighted and just get him a harness, or a aviary for outside.

He currently lives in 1 of my back yard aviaries, I think I will just stick to a harness. (the nest boxes were used for the budgies that I used to house in the aviary).
