I am interested in purchasing one. Could the members here give me some recommendations and where to purchase one. I have done some research with Consumer Reports and realized they cost over $100. I don't mind spending that kind of money as long as I know it's durable and quiet.

I am also looking into getting an air purifyer. So very confused by what is out there and they are pretty expensive.

I have very bad asthma and would like to get one in which the filter can be cleaned and washed and not have to keep buying filters for it. Are there any models out there like that?

Thanks for all your input and information.

Goaler is right about making one better...cheaper. The cheap little desktop things that are peddled around the internet are not really worth the money you pay for them & the ones that work pretty well run upwards of $300US...but...you can make a really good one for less than $100US.....

Here is a link to one you can buy or build:

Box Fan Air Filter Air Cleaner

The only problem is that they may not go with your Queen Anne decor.....but you can upgrade/change to any grade filter you choose.....

We are bringing home our 2nd parrot (baby Sun Conure) at the end of this week and needed an air purifier in a hurry (plus 3 of us are asthmatic, so it's an investment). We bought a Honeywell Oscillating Air Purifier at Walmart last night ($145). It has permanent, washable filters that I can clean out. I didn't want to deal with buying and changing filters. It is super quiet and the air smells so good! I wish I had done this years ago.
