Hello everyone,
We bought Mango a swing for his cage and absolutely loves it. He gets on it (this seems to be somewhat difficult) and swings it like crazy. He really gets it going and Ive had to move the toys away from it to make room. The only problem is he gets silly and starts hanging upside down, and flipping all over, and then he falls off. So far he seems completely unfazed by this, he just climbs over and gets back on it. It hasnt make him more careful, and he seems to land fine on his feet. I am worried that he might hurt himself though, and Im wondering what you all think of this situation. If it was your bird would you keep it or remove it?

Why remove something that bring him so much fun?? Just put a thick towel at the bottom of the cage and cover with paper towel or newspaper so that when he falls it cushions his fall?

Thats a good idea, I dont want to remove it, but Im worried he is going to land on his head or on a wing and hurt himself. I think I will actually put some cushion down there for when he falls. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if their bird learned how to avoid falling, or if anyone had a bird injure itself this way. Im an over protective mommy sometimes.

I agree with Echo and many birds will fall on purpose for fun so he may still do it even if you remove the swing. I read an old topic on birdtricks about a situation just like with with a B and G Macaw

keep it! sound like he is haing fun! i agree. some birds fall on purpose. cooper constantly jumps off his playgym just to flap his wings a bit and *fly*. well not really fly cuz he is clipped but you get what i mean. but other times jumping off means he want to go back in his cage. hard to tell sometimes with cooper XD

Think about this...If we had wings, would we be afraid of falling? Of course, as their guardians, we have to watch out for their safety. But, they don't fear falling, or dropping down. I'd leave it also. You've safeguarded it, now let him enjoy it!
