i currently own cockatiels and peach faced lovebirds and have owned a budgie in the past (he passed away).

cockatiels are my favourites for the cuddle factor, the more even-tempered factor and they are much LESS complicated than lovebirds lol

(i love my goofy lovebirds though, they never read this post :p )

I have actually owned all of the birds you mentioned (can't remember if the lovebird was a peach face though). and I enjoyed mine for the same reasons.
However my tiels were handraised and by budgies and lovebirds were not.

Oh, goodness. Let's see, through the years I've had Budgies, Cockatiels, Red Fronted Kakarikis, Gold Mantled Rosellas, Blue Streaked Lories, Violet Naped Lories, Mitred Conures, Sun Conure, Black Headed Caique, Cuban Amazons, Vinaceous Amazons. Every one of them was special to me in their own unique way, there is no way to pick a favorite for me. If I was forced to choose, I would go with the Blue Streaked Lories: their cunning, conniving commitment to commit mayhem and the obvious enjoyment they received from committing it was just too fun to watch.

Wow, that's quite a list. I understand what you mean about it being hard to choose because of their uniqueness. Every pet certainly is special.

Budgies, cockatiels, bourkes, a turquoisine, peach face lovebird, cherry headed conure and mitred conure.

My favorite of the "little birds" would be the cockatiels... but only because my first tiel was hand raised and she's a sweety! (a brat, too!) I've had her since she was 5 months old and she'll be 12 this year! Bourkes would be a close second since they are such unique little creatures!

Of the larger, I'd go with cherry head. My cherry head was a special needs bird, and he had a place in my heart. He was never "right", but he was my special guy. I miss having a cherry head. I do love my "my-turd", but cherry heads will always have a special place in my heart.

I like the Macaws the best. Personalities, beauty, easier to care for , etc ....

I have greys and a sennie, and I have to say that between them I think I like my sennie best. Less mess and less destructive, but still cuddly when she wants to be. The greys are great, but they're not MY dream bird but my husbands. I want the cuddly macaw that trashes the house and demands all my time... Not exactly like my sennie but than who is? ;p

Very cool, do you want one of the large macaws or a mini one?

That's very interesting that you prefer your cockatiels over the big birds. Why is that?:white1:

Gilbert Oliver, Blue Crown Conure; Georgie, Sun Conure (2/8/01-8/8/12) RIP little girl; Percy, budgie 1993-1999. RIP Pepito-spanish timbrado canary
i have had 4 budgies, 2 canaries (a red factor and a spanish timbrado) and 2 conures (sun and blue crown). They are all different and hard to choose a 'favorite', but the two i probably had the easiest time forming a powerful bond with--my first budgie, Percy, and Gilbert, my blue crown. They are/were my charmers. Percy charmed everyone he met. He would make a dramatic entrance when i had company, fly around the room and land on a guest and start talking. He was definitely "the life of the party", and he wanted it to stay that way. HUGE personality for a tiny little guy. I still miss Percy all the time and he died in 1999! Gilbert is only a youngster but he has certain personality traits that are a bit like Percy, but he is more of a mush! He is kind of 'lovey dovey' in general, happy, funny and affectionate. Percy was less mushy and more dramatic and 'larger than life'.

IMHO,
1) I'd much rather clean five BIG macaw cages than one or two smaller finch type cages. I just think bigger cages are easier to work on from a maintenance point.

2) My 'Too is a LOT dustier than my Macaws. Cockatiels and Cockatoos have way more dander than any other bird I've ever kept.

3) My 'Too makes twice the mess throwing food and destroying more things than BOTH my macawa combined.

4) 'Too, IMHO, a a LOT more vocal than Macaws.

Just my observation and opinion.

I prefer medium to large parrots in general. I had cockatiel for about 3 months that I tamed, he loved me so much and I had fun training him. I feel kinda bad, but I didn't feel I had the same connection I have with Rosie. Maybe if I had him for longer it may have been different. My brother complained about Dante being loud all the time. I ended up giving him to one of my best friends who also had a cockatiel were Dante is extremely happy.

Oh, so a large macaw! My goal is either a harlequin or a greenwing, but if a hyacinth became available I wouldn't complain ;p. I love greenwing personality, but the addition of blue and gold clowniness and the beautiful colour variations are so tempting!

Having grown up with a godfather who raised parrots and then myself fostering several different types of parrots, I've had the honor of living with several different types and developed definite preferences, from parrotlets to large macaws. Hands down, for me personally, I have had the most wonderful, amazing, sublime relationship with a small, male, special-needs Peachface lovebird. No matter what parrots I share my life with now or in the future, my lovebird is, and shall remain, my all-time favorite. I like his sense of quirky humor, his bravery (he doesn't spook as easily as some other parrots tend to), his intelligence (he's every bit as responsive to teaching and requested behaviors as is my CAG), his friendliness with strangers (I love sharing my parrots with others, safely!), his steadfast loyalty and dedication to me (he forgives me in minutes if I have to give him medication or trim his nails), his portability (I can and do take him with me when I have to be out of town), and his ease of care (small poops, little mess, tiny noise, no trouble whatsoever).

That said, I adore all my birds for different reasons. You just asked for fav. :)

I've been owned by George, a Yellow-crowned Amazon, who was with me from 1969 until his passing in 2010. I am now owned by Ralph, the Quaker parrot, who came to live with me a short time after I lost George. Both parrots are very special to me-- I can't honestly say that I have a favorite.

I also forgot to mention I had a Quaker as well. Cockatiel was my first bird that I got for myself the moment I turned 18. Even though I've had finches and parakeets before that. But they're just really smart little parrots and they're so lovable!!! Even with all the big birds, it was not complete without having Cockatiels. That's why they're my top choice.

I had experienced a budgie, cockatiel and green cheek conure as a child. I liked the green cheek conure the best (not saying I didn't like the budgie or cockatiel). I currently have a green cheek conure and am working on getting a min macaw.
