I was at a craft shop the other day and saw so many beads and other bits and bobs that looked perfect to me for making bird toys... How do I know which of these are bird-safe and which are not?

Thanks :)

Well most beads are ok depending on the size of birds, there are many many websites that can tell you what is safe and what is not. And I'm sure here are lists and ideas on the forums you could look around on. As for the bits and bobs I kinda don't know what you means so I can't say if they are safe or not:p.

Haha :p Ok, thanks so much. I was just worried about not being able to know the type of paint on wooden beads, and if the unpainted wooden beads were safe either. I guess by that I mean what type of strings/ropes are safe, and whether giant buttons make safe parts of toys :)

untreated, un painted wooden beads would be ok, as for the rope natural sisal untreated is good natural jute untreated is ok, some use cotton rope or a rope called poly rope... this is all stuff you can find pretty easily on the internet as tons of people make there bird toys instead of buying:)
