Well about 2 weeks ago I brought 4 beakasaurus ( lg bird toy) ;) spent almost $180.. And they chainsawed through them like nothing...nothing left but hanging chains:(

Does anyone make hardwood toys anymore.. Or are they all soft pine??

Any recommendation ?

I think hardwood is good for perches, but not really for toys.Like billsbird said it's not interesting if it can't be destroyed. I have a couple of dragon wood rings on Kenji's toys and he isn't all that interested in them.

I once that hardwood splinters instead of shreds.

Copper's right about some hardwoods splintering.....it's just the way some woods split, but some would just split, without undue splintering...red oak would splinter where maple would split, not sure about white oak (been several years since I worked with it), though it is a tighter grain & harder that its red counterpart.....if I was making one of those toys, & might opt for using mesquite, hickory, maple, white oak & ash, in rank of hardness...all are tight clean grained hardwoods that would split rather than splinter.....

Your beakasaurus looks like the squares may be 3/8" or even 1/2" stock, while 3/4" material may have been a bit more challenging.....also, I'd think the balls were pretty quickly split open.....

What were the parts strung with?

All that's left are chains they were strung on... I understand they find the chewing and destruction as stimulating...But I was thinking oak ,maple or manzanita chips... Would keep them interested and last longer than pine.... I might just go back to cutting 2x4 into blocks and chaining them up... They last as long and is a lot cheaper..
