Do you let your birds outside (in cages or not)?

All my parrot-owning friends keep theirs indoors all day, so I was just wondering how common it was to do this. We take our parrots' cages outside for a good portion of the afternoon, unless the weather is unfavorable; they're right on the front deck an inch in front of our windows, so they're always within view. They're too small to risk taking them outside without their cages, but I think fresh air might be part of the reason they've lived so long without illness.

Yes yes yes, if we had decent weather here in the UK often without the 70% chance of rain on a daily basis our birds would be out all the time! They LOVE it and it's so good for them.

Being outside is really good for parrots, natural sun light is better than any full spectrum bulb.

I take Rosie out in a harness and she also has a outside cage. I plan to also take Kenji out but he isn't ready for that yet.

being outside is great for birds they really benefit from it mentally and physically! Mine go out every day that the weather is nice I have my birds in a nice garage now so on nice days I open the whole garage door for sunshine and fresh air! Before they had that room I moved the cages outside every nice day which was a hassle but well worth it! Some of my birds also go out on their harnesses with me which I like best!!

Every chance I get.
On really nice days when we have lots of time we drag the big cages out on the deck, they get showers with the garden hose and makes cage cleaning really easy.

On so so days I get them in their travel carriers and go to the deck or backyard or even out to the park. They love it and it is so healthy for them.

We have always taken our birds outside. And we've always had an outdoor cage for them. Nowadays, when we put Sweet Pea in her outdoor cage, we refer to it as "she's out there teaching the wild birds how to speak English"... haha

To me, outdoors is a bird's natural habitat and so all pet birds should get some outdoors time, just like it wouldn't be healthy for us humans to be indoors all the time either.

I take Chico outdoors in a harness at least every other day. We practice his flying and I try to get him some direct sunlight.

I drag Basil's cage out to our sunny deck when I can. But only between May and September. Too cold otherwise. It's VERY exciting for him to see and hear all the outside birdies going about their business.

i take my guys out as much as i can, but unfortunately i have a bad back and can not move their cage outside by myself (i have stairs) so it can only get done when bf is not working. so if he is home and its a nice day they go out in their cage for a couple of hrs and they love it. it gets quite noisy when i do because they love conversing with all the wild birds and will screech at all the passing cars but i dont care, they are having fun so thats all that counts.

We have two lemon trees in our yard that are small enough so we can sit in a chair while we watch the birds enjoy themselves, supervised. Then we have a small outside cage that they go in to alone, we rotate so each can have fresh air that way too. Fun fun. We take Kiwi with us in the car all the time. Rio is still settling in so we haven't ventured out too far th with her yet.

Yes, I take Dorothy out just about every day (weather permitting) This is the only reason that Dorothy is clipped, she gets very upset if she see's me go outside without her. We have a 6 foot fence around our back yard, she can glide down so she doesn't get hurt however she cannot fly upwards. I have a large grapevine hanging sphere that she hangs out on or she sits on my chair or table. I was so on the fence about clipping her again last week because she started getting a bit further with her gliding. However she so enjoys her outside time with me that I think it made sense to keep her clipped this summer. If I could get a harness on her without upsetting the heck out of her I would probably do this.

I know I do if its over 70 and under 85.

I also keep him in the shade. I plan on walking around with him once I get a harness though.
