Hi all, we have a rainbow lorikeet and she has just about all of her feathers now. We were feeding her paswell hand reering food and when we ran out, we started feeding her the older birds food which is a lori mix that tastes like banana sherbert mixed with apple & mango baby food.

She grew quite rapidly on that and her feathers are soft and gorgeous and she was eating quite alot of it.

Now she doesn't seem to want it as much. Normally at 7am I feed her and she scoffs it down (1 tsp of each mixed with warm water) but now she puts her beak in it and walks away.

Does anyone know why she would be doing this? Is she sick of the food or needing dry food now? Should I give her the hand rearing food again?

Any comments/ suggestions appreciated

THanks

Hi there.....
My African Grey Mishka who is now 1 year and 10 months did the same thing.
I started giving her her hand rear baby food in a syringe again, then after that she wanted to eat her other food.
Today, I continue giving it to her with a syringe, the reason being there is so much vitamins etc and she enjoys it.
It's worth a try, and the benefits....... bonding...and new tricks while on her feeding perch.
Good Luck
Take care
Let me know how it goes

Hi Antoinette,

Please ignore my message post on your profile, it ended up displaying.

Thanks for getting back to me. You don't think that it may be because she's getting older and doesn't need to eat as frequently?

She gets in a state and flaps her wings around like she's really not happy with the food lol. It's hard work looking after these birds sometimes.

Wish we could read their minds Lol how great would that be.
Mishka looks forward to her cereal (in the syringe) I guess by now it's routine, but I am happy because its got so much goodness in it.
When Mishka has had enough of any food, she normally takes it and throws it ANYWHERE !!!!.

Try the cereal when awaking. Then when going into the cage, for a long period, place other good in the bowl. Sure when hunger strikes, the bird will begin eating. Later add some fruit or nuts, they love them.
Now its the waiting game .....
Keep a close watch, and see what happens.
Good luck keep me up to date okay
Take care

Hi All I love putting our ideas together to help solve problems. My bird (AG) went through a period of low eating trying to get her off a seed diet and on to pellets. I started to feed her corn bread with baby foods (the yellow/orange ones) stiirred in and she loved it. Athough she is now 5 months old she still loves the soft foods. Hope this helps.

My 25+ year old Amazon will still stop eating her food when she in what I call a mood from the same food all the time so I feed her cornbread fresh fruit and veggie mix and she will eat this mix for a day or two then go back to her pellets, she will let me know when she had enough of her food by dumping the food dish on the floor, so I guess young or old they get fussy at time with there food, who really knows about kids we do are best to keep them happy and healthy.
