I want to get a scale so I can be more proactive when it comes to weighing my birds. I don't need a large scale by any means. But I was wondering if I had to buy a special scale for birds or can I just go on amazon and get one that I think would work? Seems like the ones especially for birds are a lot more pricier than the other ones.

That is what I did. This one was under $20 from Amazon and weighs up to 2000 grams. Chico is good at standing on the scale. Here my fat boy is trying to trick me into thinking he lost some weight. I just have to be sure all 8 toes are on the scale.

Buy Salter Electronic Platform Scales from our Baking Accessories range - Tesco.com

Cheap and cheerful!

Big enough for them to stand on and even scuttle about on (changes weights tho, bleh!) and can also be used to measure 'oz' (Just in case you want to use it for more than just your feathered friends!

You don't have a Tesco in America though, but my point is, cheap and cheerful can do the job too :)

Some birds are funny and need 't stand scales' but mine dont :)

I got mine at Walmart for 20.00. It's a handy feature to have one that does the "tare" weight so you can put a small perch or folded towel on it and then weigh the bird after that.

I wasn't being a smart shopper and bought a $35.00 dollar scale from target. Don't be like me. There are cheaper ones out there.

Make sure you buy something he can stand on. Mine has a glass disk about 5" in diameter that I set boomer on top of.

That is exactly what I have, but the plastic is like matte silver instead of white. That's perfect.

I just use a small digital kitchen scale that is fairly accurate to 10ths of a gram. It was very cheap and has been reliable in the weighing of many birds and reptiles over the years.

I use a scale similar to that and to make sure my bird is fully on it, I just put a little ceramic bowl on top with a little food in it. I weigh the bowl with food before and then put my bird on the bowl. While he eats, I can weigh him. :) That way he stays still for a few seconds while he eats.
