How do you shower with your bird?

I've tried this before, but I find it very difficult. I take black jack onto the shower on my hand or shoulder and he melts in the water . He gets completely soaked! However, I have to put him outside the shower when I use soap. I know a lot of people shower with their birds, but isn't the soap and scent bad for them?

We have a separate cage we put the birds in, take them outside and hose them off. They know when they all get put in the cage it is time for a shower. When it is cold out, we let them splash around in various pans, dishes and bowls with water in them.

I take Pippin in and stick him on the hose that attaches to the shower head, and just let him get wet. He loves showers!
I also shower him in the tub sometimes and in the sink...he really likes getting wet.

I put Remington(gw macaw) on his shower perch and he stays in there the whole time I'm in there, soap and shampoo really aren't an issue. Ollie(CAG) will fly off the perch so I hold her until she is good and wet.

oooh. I don't shower WITH Blue. She's get her own shower and I have mine separately. I'm still worried about her getting that big beak on my girly bits.

I recently bought a very inexpensive suction based towel rail through ebay (China). It has two rails and hunormous suction cups that stick to your bathroom tiles. The Beaks will sit on it quite happily, but as soon as I turn the shower on, the noise spooks them and they nick off. ATM, the only way I can get them wet is to squirt them with a spray bottle. This is a clumsy and messy and WET business! I'm trying to get the Beaks to be willing to sit in the sink under the drizzling tap, but so far no joy.

I WILL get these guys into some kind of ablutions routine if it's the last thing I do!!!

I might wrap the rods with vetwrap, but the Beaks cope with them quite well, so I might not.

That's why I always put on my bathing suit....You see, bathing suits are made of such thick, heavy material, I'm sure my "girls" would be safe from their beaks. :54:

I can see it now........just a minute kids, we'll have shower time right after I put on my swim-suit/costume.......

A little while later...all done now, let's go get dried off.....plop, plop, splish, splash, drip, drip, drip.....hmmm, guess I'll have to mop the floor too, plop, plop, splish, splash, drip, drip, drip.....you guys hang out here on the playstands while mom takes her shower..... plop, plop, plop, drip, drip, drip.....ugh, ugh, ugh.....these wet suits are a ?*! to peel off...ahhh.....love that needle spray.....

I bought a shower perch off of Ebay and I take Rory into the shower with me and after I am done washing me I turn the water to luke warm and then spray him down and he loves it. He also like to take a bath in his water bowl before bed time.

I bought a shower perch for Kiwi too and i take her in every other day. She loves it, and will screech every time it's her turn for the shower (we take turns). Sometimes I practically have to wrestle it away from her My only concern is when i shampoo..will the smell hurt her? I don't use a lot, and I never get it on her...any insight?

Rosie my GW has a shower perch that suctions to the wall. Since she gets very put out if I shower alone, she showers with me daily. Once I am done, she usually stays in another 10 minutes or so for "Rosie's turn".

thanks for the replies! black jack *loves* the shower! he gets completely SOAKED and just gets this dazed look on his face and mumbles , then i take him out and wrap him in a towel. unfortunately, after his baths, he has very watery droppings. , which are a pain to clean up. luckily, other than the occasional accident, he's potty trained. does this happen to anyone else? after about a half an hour, his droppings are fine, so it never really worried me.

I have a problem of a different sort. We found a bird shower perch. I'll bring the birds in and move them out of the way while I get my shower. After, I'll swing the perch back around and splash them. They LOVE the acoustics in there, though. Their happy "singing" causes hearing loss. I need some of those over the head, airport headphones to keep my eardrums from bursting.

Our Alex is yet to adjust to the shower. She finds her water bowl a much better way of bathing although if you are within a 10 metre radius you risk getting your own bath. Ok I might have been joking about the 10 metres bit but she does get it everywhere. Her favourite move if just sitting in the bowl with as much of her body submerged as she can. And she always washes her feet and beak prior to eating her evening meal.

Seriously, the only bird that doesn't like bathing is my CAG...

I have trouble getting my greenwing, and the amazons OUT of the shower. I have to turn the water off on them, and tell them it's enough!

When doing dishes my RFM will fly to the sink, and jump in, and roll around before you can get anything done...

My CAG, on the other hand, does his "poofy bird, line of death, don't you dare get me wet" dance! Doesn't work though. I make him bathe anyway. He's the dander bird!
