P.S. sometimes i just need to put her back into the cage so that i can get out of the room, but she would scream and i think it's kind of a punishment i don't want to do, really need some advice here...

Flute, what's the problem? Your bird wants your company. Put her back in her cage, she will get used to being there and stop screaming. She could be lonely, they are in a flock in the wild and she has no companions but you. Perhaps she needs a companion, another cockatiel? They don't seem to enjoy toys overly much, so it can be difficult to keep them amused when in their cage. Hard for me to say too much more as we have more than one cockatiel and other species as well. They interact with each other and so have a "flock" of their own.

My boyfriend had a cockatiel who acted similar to yours. What he did was spend all afternoon with him and during the day he'd leave him in the cage. As the pp said, they are social birds and sometimes prefer your company to a toy.

One of my budgies was worst before I got her a friend. She wanted to be with me all the time (even bathroom and would cry when I locked myself in). Once I got her a friend she calmed down quite a bit. :)

sometimes giving your bird a treat before leaving the room will help you escape.

I've had that happen with my cockatiels, lovebirds and conures too, it can be frustrating.

But on the other hand, I would rather have a bird love me any day than bite me.

to this day, I still have one of my cockatiels fly to me EVERY TIME I leave my bedroom. I just wave my hands above my head so she can't land, and she flies off, it may look totally retarted, but hey, it works.

My birds have always flown right back to me if i put them on their cage. I try to bring Gil along with me as much as possible, because i think my having to work and he entertains himself with his toys all day, he just wants me when i'm there. I can't really blame him for it. If it's something he 'can't' be a part of, i will put him in his cage at the time and just talk to him or call to him. Gilbert LOVES shoulder time, and will be an angel as long as i give him my shoulder. I try NOT to let him have shoulder whenever he wants it though, so i will make him take a break and only come on my shoulder when i ask him to (that is one of our training objectives, LOL)

I do this sometimes with Hahnzel. He is always flying to me now that his flight feathers are growing back in again.
