Sugar (male, Green Cheek Conure)
I have tried to search when my conure (Sugar) originally "came from" out of curiosity, but now I am very curious as after reading what the numbers and letters mean, I cannot find any place that corresponds with my birds leg band?? Can anyone offer any type of insight? His letters are PBT? Isn't that supposed to be the quoritine station?

Don't know what you've been reading, but there haven't been any quarantine stations around since the early 90s & like Shelly mentioned, they would have been open bands.....

Here's some info that may help clarify things about bands...but...open bands are still used on some birds, though not on birds imported through quarantine stations.....

Guess it would help if I left the link...

Good luck, hope you find the breeder.....

My new Pineapple Green Cheek Conure also has an orange closed legband that has only PBT and the number next to it, and as this is my very first pet bird, I would love to be able to find the place this parrot came from as I got mine second hand....

Your best chance is to contact band manufacturers, Like L&M in california. Remember,,, they don't have to give any info. their customers are the folks who order bands. Ask if they made the band, give them YOUR contact info. They will not give you their customers info ,however they MIGHT contact the breeder and pass along your info. It's up to the breeder to contact you if they want. FYI most breeders are wary of ARF (animal rights fanatics) fanatics are fanatics and don't deal with reality/common sense very well. Hopefully the breeder hasn't been bash by idiots and will respond to you. BTW the bands are there for the breeders benefit and not yours, they are under no obligation to contact you. Remember, all the folks you are dealing with are doing YOU a favor, be nice and polite.

I wish there were a band registry so we could all find out more about our birds, however henpecked is right, the bands are there for the breeder's records, not so we can find them. Also, please dont be offended if you do find the breeder and they dont want to talk to you for some reason. I know it isnt parrots, but I used to know someone who bred mink (for fur) and they had to have 2 armed guards at night because PETA members would come in and set thousands of dollars worth of mink loose - ironically dooming them to a worse death than being killed for their fur. That is the kind of trouble animal right fanatics can cause, so if the breeder has had a similar experience they may be wary of contacting an unknown person claiming to have one of their birds. HOWEVER, I still think it would be great to try to find them!!

Actually, now that I think about it, could we have a thread here where we share leg band info in order to help people find out more about their birds if others have birds with the same band codes? Or would that be a bad idea?

I recently got a little green cheek out of animal control (someone found it and turned it in) . The leg band is orange and shows PBT and 4 numbers after that.

So it sounds like 3 of you may have birds from the same breeder or potentially just the same club. Can any of you share the area you got the birds from? How old they are? Anything to help each other out? Also, I started another thread that I hope will help us all get more info about our birds of unknown origin and mysterious leg bands.

My pineapple green-cheeked Conure has the legband PBT-132 and was received near the Branson, Missouri area, near the Arkansas border. I have no idea how old my Conure is as she literally came with no information, the man who did have her is in prison now. She looks young though! I don't know the gender but am thinking it might be female from what I read online. I would just like to know her history so we know her age for sure and possibly gender....we aren't sure where she came from, so any help is appreciated!

I know this is an old thread, but I’m wondering if any of you found answers regarding the PBT bands? I’m also looking.

In my experience, local bird clubs are the best bet. Breeders (and their brands) come and go, and parrot-lover communities, as local as possible are most likely to be familiar with that. I found my Patagonian's breeder by scouring lists of clubs that were local to the area(s) which I suspected were his origin, and contacted them until I found her... a one-time breeder who would only have been known to local folks. I wish you luck.
