step up question

sorry for so many questions in such a short period of time i just wanted to know as much about my quaker before i get it so i dont mistreat it on accident. My question is how long should i wait to teach it step up (it might already know this as it knows how to say hello from all the people coming in the store) i was thinking of maximum amount of time bieng a week and judging by the birds rection if it should be longer or shorter also i have read that in this time i should expect to be nipped and hopefully not a full fledge bite as i like my blood inside of me, but that comes with somthing over 10x larger than you that you dont know and bieng rehomed on top of that. once again i am sorry about so many posts in such a short period of time just all the info i read on the web said differant things and would like to know from ppl with experiance.

I'd say your instincts are pretty good. Very roughly a week can be good, plus or minus depending on how the bird is settling in.

When you first bring him home you want things to happen on his terms. HE sets the schedule not you - so you don't pick a time to start, he does. But if you want to know when to expect him to be ready then a week is a fair but rough estimate.

When he first arrives just let him get used to his surroundings. Then you can leave the cage door open and give him the option to come out, but do not expect or force him to. When he's ready he will. It's very much a matter of playing it by ear - and once you bring him home we'll be here to help out if you need it so that everything goes fairly smoothly. Yes, I said FAIRLY - there WILL be bumps in the road, you WILL get bit, and he WILL draw blood. That is something you need to be ready for. Such frustrations will pass and you can have a great relationship with your bird so don't let me scare you, but you do need to be ready for a few incidents.
