Safe lock for cage? Asap please!

I have a new young parrotlet I purchased a few days ago, and twice have found him sitting on top of his cage when I come home.

2 doors on the cage with a latch, but the two holding the water and food dish simply slide up. I'm guessing he has figured out how to slide these enough to fit out when I'm not looking.

What's a safe method to keep the doors closed, but still accessible for changing food and water? I'm afraid to use twisty ties, in case they are harmful, but can't think of anything else really...help?

My small birds are little houdini's also, now they all have the kind of clips that people use to hang keys and stuff on pant loops. I use the small clips. I was buying them in the package from Home Depot, but now I go to the hardware store and buy them in bulk. Good luck.:green1:

My conure did that in the first cage i bought him. I used clips (kinda like the clips mountain climbers use, you find them on many keychains.) to secure the doors. It worked really well.

Another Houdini has been reincarnated LoL
Mishka my AG used to open every available opening in her cage.
I purchased keyring locks form a hardware, they did the job.
They are available in many different sizes and strengths.

Hope this was helpful.
Good luck

Those are kind of like the clips I use, except mine have the rounded head. I could not think what they were called. They are great. I used to use the quick links like we use to hang the toys, but they were a hassle trying to undo them everytime. These clips work great and my little birds can't open the doors. Good luck.:green1:
