major animal abuse at local store

A local petshop closed down and was selling their birds for dirt cheap.
parakeets were $5, cockatiels for $6 or three for $10. I have been rescuing unwated birds like crazy on craigslist lately because people that bought cheap birds with problems no longer want them.
After the birds were all sold, the store brought out their private breeders from a colony that lived in a shed outside of the store.
Some of my friends bought them and months later, lacerations are still squirting blood.
All of the cockatiels are missing limbs, broken wings, have no toes, major wounds that wont heal.
I am all maxed out on how many I could rescue.
Now, the pet shop owner has listed 150+ cockatiels in need of a home.
I also found out that the owner was trying to force bigger birds to breed by putting them in tiny cages so they have nothing to focus on but breeding, which is how the cockatiels all ended up injured by landing on the cages. The cockatiels were all free to fly around the shed uncaged, so the place is disgusting and they probably have diseases and mites.
I almost wish I could adopt all of them just to have them put down.
Also, when they closed, I purchased a sun conure that wasnt even weaned! I posted on craigslist offering to hand feed peoples unweaned birds from the store and I found 5 people whos birds werent weaned.
And to think, this was a store that always told me what to do with my birds. The owner was a know it all and told me my rescue was plucking because it needed a mate. My amazon hated other birds and he plucked because his owner died.

anyways, everyone locally knows about the abuse and yet no one does anything about it.
Is this something that can be reported? Can I get other people to petition with what they witnessed etc?
and what can I do about the cockatiels, is it wrong of me to euthanize all 150+? I dont know what to do and I'm tired of people sitting around allowing this greedy person to start a new business!

OH my gosh!

1) Good for you for having the compassion to take action and not just sit around!
2) I don't think it would be bad to have them put down. Sad, yes, but no sadder than them living in awful conditions without a proper life.
3) I would call your animal control / local bird rescue and ask their advice on what do to about this guy. You might also try the local police and just see if they can refer you to someone.
4) Is this a chain or a locally owned store? Private, right? If by chance it is part of some larger parent company - contact them!

I wish you the best of luck, I can't imagine how hard and frustrating this must be!

Contact local SPCA or Humane Society. They have the means, money, and authority to do something. Also, if brought before a judge, and found guilty of abuse, this guy could be prevented from ever selling, or even owning, animals. And may go to jail besides. BTW, thanks for caring.

Yes, report it to the rspca (or your equivalent). Also, report it to the local council/municipal authority. They will have bylaws relating to the use of premises. There's no way shoving hundreds of deprived and injured birds in there would be in accordance with regulations.

No no no.......... the SPCA are frauds who allowed my Valentino to be murdered. My neighbors and I were calling the hotline constantly before and after he died in they did nothing. After animal control got involved, they were forced to turn over the case to the SPCA agent who decided it wasn't murder but an "unfortunate accident"and even claimed that the animal control officer told him that. I of course contacted officer Jose Munaz and he was outraged as he never said any such thing. At the very least he called it deliberate negligence and was looking to prove more with an investigation. He told me that I should be calling the 800 number to give me the address for written documents to be sent to, because by law they have to investigate written complaints. I blame the SPCA as complacent in Valentino's death and have yet to be able to bring myself to write the murdering bastards.

You contact a legitimate rescue. You contact several legitimate rescues. Disabled bird is not a throwaway bird – I've had them before and my current certified service animal is one.

Have anybody who witnessed this horrendous situation give notarized affidavits. Notary publics everywhere and cheap. You then present the evidence to animal control. You keep everything in writing. You do not decide who lives and dies just because you're overwhelmed – it's selfish.

I have 2 1/2 pages of medical conditions and a five hour day home health aide – you want to euthanize me too?

Link me over to this craigslist mess.

Give me as much information as you can.

My girlfriend does pro bono legal work, and I'll get her opinion on how to handle this in the morning.

Once again,
you do not help the victim by murdering the victim.

If you spread them out, you can probably get the major rescues take a few birds each, and the currently healthy enough to be adoptable ones can be easily be taken in by foster volunteers – I have three empty cockatiel Cages, one empty parakeet cage, and one empty Red factor Canary cage.

There are probably other board members with empty cages as well, simply because they tend to end up in storage or closet when we upgrade to a new one or when a parrot species dies that we don't replace the exact same species.
