Now that everything has settled in our bedroom with all my birds, I feel I need some suggestions on adding a new member.
Now, it won't be right away, down the line when I am ready....months from now.

I really miss Safari, so much so now the tears are flowing again:rolleyes:
I hate that:eek:

I am not interested in another Senegal, but rather another type of bird that will fit into my flock.

nothing large, no bigger than a quaker. those seem to peek my interest however I've heard they can be loud.....but HOW loud??

I would really like some feed back on some possibilities. all my birds get along, that is why I was so proud of Safari, he came so far in such a short amount of time I had him, he finally accepted each and every one of my flock, and I was so very very proud of him.

I have 2 conures,4 lovebirds,& 4 cockatiels, minus Safari.

Quakers are wonderful birds to have!!!!! I miss mine everyday....He would of been 13 years old now if he was still here.....Mine was very quiet IF I'm resting but when I'm up he chatters. I find him to be no more noisier then a Cockatiel or Conure.

....really?
I was considering a young one so it would adapt to all of my other birds.

It's funny you're someone I'd go to for advice on this subject rather than receiving it lol - from looking at your list of birds you have, you seem to prefer the smaller species, but I don't see a parrotlet on that list ;) although I don't think they are the most friendly with other species - and I agree with Mikey that you would be a good candidate for a Quaker.

I had a Quaker about 15 years ago....he was so fun! He would ride around in my sweatshirt pocket, follow me around everywhere, and hang out with me wherever. I don't remember him being too loud.

I vote for a Quaker.

Or a galah :D haha

I can SO see you with a Quaker (or two), Beth!!! :D

Had you not said "no bigger than a Quaker", I think you know what I would have suggested, no...not a macaw.....:54:

I think my Rosey Bourkes are great little birds. They are so tame (without being tamed) that we can reach in and they'll jump right onto our finger. They are neat and quiet and have a really sweet personality all around:)

I've been meaning to mention this, I LOVE your avatar picture, I think it's beautiful and very creative:D

I've had parrotlets, and they really are great birds, but would not get along with my flock. they typically get along with their own kind and no one else.

as for asking advice, I usually do on here, it's the best place to do just that:D

ha ha, they sound like fun.

I was thinking about a galah, but we don't have any breeders around here....and tend to be a bit pricey....

Beth,

I raised Cracker from a baby, he was my baby.....He loves being on me me me.....My family loved him lots, they were very upset to hear about his passing. My family did not like birds and thought they were dirty and everything. They never knew how smart they were until Cracker came along.

The most gentle, responsive, social parrot that got along with all my other birds was my Noble macaw Mihijo. It is so hard now to find a true noble macaw with pure lines anymore. They must not breed well and I am not sure why they are not more available. The Noble macaw would fit your situation very well but since you are going to have to jump though many many hoops to find one I don't know if that would even work for you.

Mihijo was a one in a million parrot. I have a rescue Noble macaw now and even though I can see traits of a normal Noble macaw in him he is no where near as tame as my Mihijo was.

My friend had a quaker who was a funny little bird. I did not see her very often but when I saw her she went nuts for me and would crawl inside my clothing. Too funny.

Okay, my suggestion would be thus: check with local shelters, rescue groups, and see who tugs your heartstrings! I only say this because so many of the stories of beloved pets nominated for our site have started ... "I went out looking to get a XXX ,,, and ended with ZZZ, who became the best ever!"

Plus, helping a bird in need of a home can be rewarding!

What about a pionus or another poi species? Red bellied? Meyers? Brown head?

I've had bourkes, not my type of bird, I like something a little more cuddly.

I've had a Pionus, and all she did was SCREAM....well that was short lived, back to my cousins....I've thought about Meyers etc....and I really don't want another Poi....it would remind me too much of Safari :(

....but thanks for the suggestions monica!!!

You should get a QUAKER! They aren't too loud! Yeah so they scream a little but it's nothing compared to a conure. They are awesome.

I wasn't thinking a bourkes for you, although they would go well with tiels, canaries or finches...

Sounds like you met the wrong pionus. Generally speaking, they are considered to be quiet species!

Honestly, I don't think the bourke would last very long with my lovebirds, and conures, they would target that type of bird, I do love them though.
the Pionus came from a very quiet house, people gone all day, but home around 5, with no children, and only 2 small dogs.

my house has 2 kids,3 dogs, 4 cats, full of birds, I'm home during the daytime,
I come and go a lot, doors slamming, etc...a busy house

every time she saw my dogs, she'd scream, same goes for the cats, that's 7 times per minute she would scream, and it was LOUD.....just couldn't take it, nor could my autistic son.
Unfortunately Willow has copied her SCREAM and drives us nuts!
