Just got GCC Flip and have made the house toxic free, or so I thought. I'm assuming our Oreck clothes iron's non-stick sole plate isn't great for Flip, right?

Can I iron as long as he's not around? Do all you bird owners just wear wrinkled clothing?

LOL, my house smells
like lemons.

If you have a separate room to iron in you can use the Iron. Personally I prefer wrinkle free clothing. You could also get a clothes steamer.

You can iron in a different room fine, which would also prevent any possible contact burns should Flip decide to investigate....

I'm so bad at ironing clothes. Since I set off the smoke alarms when ironing, I've been banned from using an iron in the house. So I purchased a dryer that has one of those fancy cycles that leave your clothes wrinkle free. Also there is a gadget that is a glorified steamer which can help smooth out your wrinkled clothes. I like it as you hang your clothes up and spray with the steam. Not only does it keep my back from complaining about bending over the board, the smoke alarm has kept quiet. And so has my husband.

Welcome to the world of bird ownership!! Your clothes will now and forever be wrinkled with poop streaks and missing buttons. Don't forget the random nibble holes!!!

I use a non-stick iron periodically. I either do it in another room or turn on the fan over the stove on the high setting. If you are not using a high temp, you should be ok as well.

I do not dry my clothes completely in the dryer, with the exception of "whites." I just put them in the dryer to eliminate excess water and wrinkles. Then they are put on hangers to finish drying either in the laundry room or outside on the line depending on the weather.

my mom irons in the room like 20 feet from cooper's cage. she only does once in a while though. but even so, we have had no problems.

You know I will add something to my extradinarily brilliant comment above :p, the modern way of living, particfularly the 'open plan' of our houses, is distinctly less friendly to our pets. Instead of just having to pet friendly one room, like the livingroom, now in many of our homes our kitchens are part of the main living space, and that makes things like ironing, cooking, cleaning products, oven cleaning, all more dangerous to our feathered, and furred, friends.
