Hi everyone, I'm new to this site and am desperate for help with my 12 yr. old green cheeked conure, Tutu....She is laying eggs again, no mate and wants to chew on the aluminum door frame or screws or metal on the things on the counter. Since she is laying, she will only eat when I invite her to come out and I give her a little birdie buffet on the kitchen counter. After she eats she will fly to the aluminum door frame and licks and tries to bite it. She also tries to bite any metal screws on the appliances on the counter. I'm assuming she has some sort of deficiency due to the egg laying but I have no clue. I've been all over the internet and cannot find any info. She is on ZuPreem pellets and I also give her appropriate human food. Have any of you out there experienced anything like this with any of your birds? I would appreciate any help or ideas. I am also waiting for a call back from a vet but I've called twice in 5 days and still no response. Thank you all very much!

Is she getting sufficient calcium? If she's laying she needs calcium to replenish what she's lost.

Hi and thanks for your reply. I don't mean to sound foolish but how do I know if she is getting enough calcium? Can you suggest a product or food I should consider? Thanks again, Di

I offer up a Cuttlebone. It's available at most pet stores in the bird supply area.
Some of my birds ignore it some chew on it occasionally.
