Percy, a 5yo BFA & Jack, a 8yo Budgie
Percy has been molting for over a month and is still losing big wing and tail feathers (and little ones too). He does have lots of pin feathers everywhere and no bare patches. All the feathers that fall out are also "clean" (no blood anywhere). So I'm sure it IS a molt. But how long will it go on? I hope he's done by the time our winter arrives!

awww, Percy's first moult(or with you anyways ;)

that depends on the bird, weather, environment, health, so many issues can affect a moult.

if he's got pins he's about half way thru...but again I am no expert on Zons, so I will defer my opinion to someone who has one.

I don't have an Amazon, but our bare eyed cockatoo, Ivory's first moult with us has been going on for about 45 days... She is about thru, not many new pin feathers, but did drop a flight feather today. She was an unhappy girl for a couple weeks, begged for scratches then would squawk if you hit a pin the wrong way by accident.

I am hoping it gets better and shorter with her being on a healthier diet, regular baths, happy / healthier environment and home.... hope the same for Percy!!

Think it all makes a world of difference for a healthy, happy home, she is so much softer, prettier and colors are better too...
