thinking about getting a parrot

Hey all how are you? I have recently felt the need to get a parrot, but with the the more research i do the more my options vary. Im a very indecisive person and just wanted to get some input.
1st I am not a first time bird owner but seeing as all the birds in my home have Owners i feel as if its time i get my own.
2nd im leaning towards a hanhs macaw a conure or a quaker. I live in new York and I am hesitant to get a quaker from a "breeder" because in the city they roam and I rather not just get one pulled from a nest.

Which out of these would you recommend and whyyyy(also looking at senegals as well).

And one more question, i was in a pet store today and saw a parrot that i have never seen before. It was called a bb parrot, after searching the web the only thing on BB parrot i saw was a picture of a bird that looked extremely similar to the one from the store, BUT i could only find one picture. Could anyone shed light on this subject?

That's a Cobalt-Winged Parakeet! Brotogeris cyanoptera.

Since your not a first time bird owner then you should understand that you must choose one on your own as every bird is different, no two is alike. One may act a certain way for me, it doesn't mean they will to you as well. But the common behavior is about the same and are known to do certain things similar. But at the end of the day, you have to live with them so it would be up to you to go visit them and see what your drawn to and which one picks you.

Just curious, what types of birds are in your home who already have 'other owners'? Have you had a bird of your own in the past, if so what was it?

Conures can be very loud but mine, a Jenday conure, was extremely affectionate. Did not talk but mumbled and made loud calls

My Hahns macaw is also very affectionate, but a total clown without fear. A very good talker, and while he can be loud, he's not been as loud as my conure.

Oh, and make sure Quakers are legal to own in your state. They are illegal in California.

When i used to live in trinidad we owned macaws but since coming back to the states i used to breed very peculiar parakeets colors all of which were tame but i went away to college so i had to get rid of them, in my home theres a quaker and cockatiels.

I have a cinnamon green cheek, he is the opposite of loud. Sometimes when he's mad that I put him in his cage he has little screeches. When he gets scared of something is when he's the loudest, but he ONLY makes that sound when he's scared and it only lasts a few seconds. Before getting Sprite I read up on how conures could be very loud, and I guess some green cheeks are, but Sprite isn't. I seriously couldn't have asked for a better bird than Sprite, he's cuddly at times, playful at times, AND he dances when I clap which I NEVER taught him to do!! He's really great

It's "beebee parrots", not BB!

Also known as "pocket parrots"! Used to be very common years ago as pets, then they kind of "disappeared" from the market and they are now slowly making their way back.

A beebee parrot is any bird of the Brotogeris species! Canary wings being the most common.

When you say conures, you didn't specify which species. Smaller conures tend to be very nippy (taking into considering that all parrots nip or bite! I'm sure you are aware) and larger conures tend to be loud. I have often heard people say that Hahns are very similar to conures.

The best way to really decide which species is best for you is to research all the species you are interested in and go and interact with various birds of those species!

Remember when GRAY Cheek Brotos were as common as the Green Cheek Conure is today?
They totally disappeared! I guess they were all wild caught and they were so common that no one bothered to proliferate the species in captivity, either that or they're hard to breed in captivity?
Also Mustache Parakeets were seen everywhere in '94 when I got Robin my Red Bellied, and are uncommon now. Interesting.

RavensGryf, unfortunately for me, I either wasn't alive or I was very young when certain species were a fad! I've been a bird owner for 14 years, which is slightly over half of my lifespan. Heck, I wasn't even in school yet when CITES banned the import of wild caught parrots!

Wish I could say I recall those times, heck it would have even been nice to get some parrots for a cheap price! (conures that sell for $300-$800 dollars now could be bought for $25-$50 back then) I know with the research I've done that the brotos were so common and easy to capture that there was no real reason to breed them. Even the wild caught birds still made good pets! And then the ban on parrots came and they almost disappeared from captivity. Although I've never owned a "beebee" parrot, I am glad that they are making their way back! Heck, when I saw my first one in the area I live in, I was shocked! A lot of people around here have parrots, but it's not a bird community. Kind of hate how one of the pet stores is continually bringing in birds that most people in this community wont even know what they are. The latest is a derbyan.

I just remember then thinking wow, EVERYONE who has a bird has a Gray Cheek parakeet. Why?! I'm gonna get something else!

When we went to an exotics store to get fruit flies yesterday they had canary wing. They were super cute and I hear they make great pets! That was the first time I've seen one.
